Solvent-free ruthenium-catalysed triflate coupling as a convenient method for selective azole-o-C-H monoarylation.

2019

Metal-catalysed ortho-directed C–H functionalization usually faces selectivity issues in the competition between mono- and disubstitution processes. We report herein the ruthenium-catalysed N-directed C–H monoarylation of arylpyrazoles with a selectivity of up to 96% or that generally reaches values above 80%. This selectivity is an effect of solvent-free conditions associated with sulfonate reagents, in the absence of frequently used acidic additives.

Silica-Immobilized NHC-Gold(I) Complexes: Versatile Catalysts for the Functionalization of Alkynes under Batch and Continuous Flow Conditions

2017

Immobilized sterically demanding NHC-Au(I) complexes silica-[(IPrR)Au]Cl and silica-[(IAdPrR)Au]Cl are synthesized and characterized. These complexes are suitable catalysts in typical homogeneous Au(I)-catalyzed alkyne reactions such as hydration, hydroamination, hydroarylation, or cycloisomerization. The results obtained with the immobilized catalysts in reactions in batch are comparable to those obtained with their homogeneous counterparts with the advantage of easily recovered and recycled in successive reactions. Their catalytic activity decreases when reused in batch reactions, probably because of crushing that is associated with magnetic stirring. In contrast, these immobilized cataly…

Synthetic approaches towards new polymer systems by the combination of living carbocationic and anionic polymerizations

1996

This study summarizes recent efforts to obtain by combination of living carbocationic and anionic polymerizations block copolymers which are potential precursors for building new well-defined polymeric architectures with microphase separated morphology. Living carbocationic polymerization (LCCP) yields telechelic polyisobutylene (PIB) chains with a variety of useful endgroups, such as tert-chlorine, isopropenyl, primary hydroxyl, tolyl etc. When tolyl-ended PIB was used as precursor for macroinitiator of living anionic polymerization of 2-(tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy)ethyl methacrylate (tBuMe2SiOEMA), mixtures of homopolymers and block copolymers were formed due to incomplete lithiation of t…

Surface-Functionalized Latex Particles as Controlling Agents for the Mineralization of Zinc Oxide in Aqueous Medium

2005

Polystyrene latex particles modified at the surface with different hydrophilic functional groups were prepared by miniemulsion polymerization and used as controlling agents in the crystallization of zinc oxide from aqueous medium. The effects of the chemical nature of the surface functionalization and the latex concentration on the crystal growth, morphology, and crystalline structure of the resulting zinc oxide were analyzed. Micro- and submicrosized crystals with a broad variety of morphologies depending on the functionalization were obtained. Among the different latexes studied, the acrylic-acid-derived particles were shown to be a convenient system for further quantitative investigation…

Identification of the 3-amino-3-carboxypropyl (acp) transferase enzyme responsible for acp3U formation at position 47 in Escherichia coli tRNAs

2019

AbstracttRNAs from all domains of life contain modified nucleotides. However, even for the experimentally most thoroughly characterized model organism Escherichia coli not all tRNA modification enzymes are known. In particular, no enzyme has been found yet for introducing the acp3U modification at position 47 in the variable loop of eight E. coli tRNAs. Here we identify the so far functionally uncharacterized YfiP protein as the SAM-dependent 3-amino-3-carboxypropyl transferase catalyzing this modification and thereby extend the list of known tRNA modification enzymes in E. coli. Similar to the Tsr3 enzymes that introduce acp modifications at U or m1Ψ nucleotides in rRNAs this protein conta…

Heterotelechelic Ring-Opening Metathesis Polymers

2009

By combining sacrificial synthesis with the vinyl lactone termination technique, heterotelechelic polymers were synthesized. The nonterminating nature of sacrificial synthesis was utilized to introduce a hydroxyl group at the start of the polymer chain. Lactone termination was used to functionalize the chain ends with aldehydes or carboxylic acids. The synthesis of well-defined heterotelechelic polymers was thus accomplished employing the Grubbs’ first generation catalyst as the initiator. The living nature of this polymerization allowed for precise control over the molecular weight and guaranteed full functionalization of both polymer chain ends. The presence of the functional groups is sh…

Sacrificial Synthesis of Hydroxy-Telechelic Metathesis Polymers via Multiblock-Copolymers

2009

The synthesis of well-defined telechelic ring-opening metathesis polymers has been achieved by Sacrificial Synthesis. With the formation of cleavable triblock-copolymers, precise control over the molecular weight and the degree of functionalization was achieved. Introducing cleavable monomers that can be addressed separately, sequential deprotection was accomplished which opened the path to more sophisticated polymeric materials bearing different substituents at their respective chain ends. Sacrificial penta- and heptablock-copolymers are also presented which allow the synthesis of well-defined telechelic polymers in good yields and significantly improved initiator efficiency.

ChemInform Abstract: Eco-Friendly Functionalization of Natural Halloysite Clay Nanotube with Ionic Liquids by Microwave Irradiation for Suzuki Coupli…

2014

Abstract Microwave assisted halloysite (HNT) external surface functionalization with ionic liquids is described. HNTs modification was achieved in two steps: a) grafting of 3-mercaptopropyl trimethoxysilane on the external surface of HNT by a microwave irradiation; b) anchorage of vinylimidazolium ionic liquids by a thiol-ene reaction. MW irradiation allowed us to obtain high loading onto the HNT surface compared to those obtained through conventional synthesis. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis confirmed that the grafting has occurred only on the external surface of HNT. Turbidimetric and dynamic light scattering analyses showed that the introduction of…

Characterization of ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) modified by ion implantation

2004

Abstract Surface modification of ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) is induced by ion implantation of different ions at 300 keV energy. The aim of this work was the chemical, physical and mechanical characterization of the modified material in order to know deep inside about the effect of the ion beam upon the polymer. The irradiated surfaces are investigated by Raman spectroscopy, infrared absorption and micro-hardness analysis, scanning electron microscopy. Pin on disc measurements valuated the wear of the UHMWPE against a stainless steel probe; wear resistance increases of about 76% after the ion implantation. This result can be attributed to the ion bombardment inducing a…
