The molecular analysis of the t(11;22) rearrangement involving EWS/FLI-1 genes is likely to be of diagnostic value in Ewing sarcoma (ES) and primitive neuroectodermal tumors (PNET). The objective of the current study was to analyze the immunohistochemical expression of the EWS and FLI-1 proteins in a group of small round-cell tumors (SRCT) to determine their specificity and relevance in their differential diagnosis. The phylogenetic position of the phylum Porifera (sponges) is near the base of the kingdom Metazoa. During the last few years, not only rRNA sequences but, more importantly, cDNA/genes that code for proteins have been isolated and characterized from sponges, in particular from the marine demosponge Geodia cydonium. For immunolocalization of alpha(2-8)-linked polysialic acid, which forms part of the neural cell adhesion molecule (N-CAM), two monoclonal antibodies, MAb735 and IgMNOV, were employed. Both antibodies have previously been shown to bind the extremely low immunogenic capsular polysaccharide of group B meningococci, which also consists of alpha(2-8) polysialic acid, but not to other, even closely related forms of polysialic acid. Despite the identical polysaccharide specificity of these two MAb, we observed marked differences of the staining pattern in tissue sections. The main goal of the present study was to analyse rotational stuctures of two excited vibrational states, (120) and (021). Because both the band, v1+2v2 and 2v2+v3 one are extremally weak, a special efforts were faired to record very weak hot bands, v1+2v2−v2 and 2v2+v3−v2.Both of those bands are located in the region of considerably more stronger combinational bands, v1 + v2 and v2 + v3. On that reason, as the first step of analysis, we made assignments of transitions belonging to these v1 + v2 and v2 + v3 bands. Abstract The structure and spectroscopic and magnetic properties of [{Cu(en)}2(μ-egta)]·4H2O (H4egta = 3,12-bis(carboxymethyl)-6–9-dio 3,12-diazatetradecanedioic acid) are described. The compound is built of centrosymmetric neutral dimeric {[Cu(en)}2(μ-egta)] entities linked through hydrogen bonds involving water molecules. -NH2 groups and -CO2 groups, affording a three-dimensional framework. The egta anion displays an opened-up structure acting as a bridging ligand between two copper atoms. The coordination geometry about the metal atoms can be viewed as 4 + 1 + 1 (CuN3OO′O″ chromophores). The EPR spectra are indicative of an essentially dv−v ground state for the copper(II) ions. 4-oxo-4-(pyren-4-ylmethoxy) butanoic acid is used as a photolabile protecting group to show the optical gating of nanofluidic devices based on synthetic ion channels. The inner surface of the channels is decorated with monolayers of photolabile hydrophobic molecules that can be removed by irradiation, which leads to the generation of hydrophilic groups. This process can be exploited in the UV-light-triggered permselective transport of ionic species in aqueous solution through the channels. A Selective Synthesis of Fluorinated Cispentacin Derivatives

A facile selective method has been developed for the synthesis of new fluorine-containing cispentacin stereoisomers. Mono- and difluorinated cispentacin derivatives were synthetized from a bicyclic β-lactam in five or six steps involving a regio- and stereoselective hydroxylation through iodooxazoline formation, followed by deoxygenation by fluorination. Starting from an enantiomerically pure bicyclic β-lactam obtained by enzymatic resolution of the racemic compound, an enantiodivergent procedure allowed the preparation of both dextro- and levorotatory difluorinated cispentacins.
