Il contributo analizza la storia novecentesca del restauro di palazzo Bellomo che rappresenta una vicenda stratificata di storia delle trasformazioni. A partire dai primi anni del 900 e nel corso della prima metà del secolo si succedono quattro campagne di interventi. La fabbrica diventa un palinsesto e i restauri ne raccontano le vicissitudini. The present research focuses on a painting on wood representing the Madonna con Bambino e San Giovanni, attributed to an unknown artist belonging to the Cretan-Venetian school, dated to the end of 16th century. The aim of the study is to provide a complete knowledge of the characteristics of the artefact in order to plane and perform a procedure according to conservative restoration. Historical and artistic evaluations and technical investigations were carried out for identifying the context, the constitutive materials and the executive techniques. The material that lies beneath the smooth shining surface of the stuccoes of the Serpotta family who used to work in Sicily from 1670 to 1730, has been thoroughly studied in previous papers, disclosing the deep, albeit empirical, knowledge of materials science that guided the artists in creating their masterpieces. In this work, attention is focused on the solid perspective and on the scenographic sculpture by Giacomo Serpotta, who is acknowledged as the leading exponent of the School.
