A New Educational Model to Train Parents for a Successful Upbringing of Children: A European Cross-national Study

Abstract The quality of parenting skills is fundamental to the children's well-being. The project “BE Supportive, NOT violent! Positive parenting for happy children!”, funded by the European Commission, proposes a new model of positive parenting to provide and reinforce parents’ knowledge, resources and tools to achieve a positive relationship and communication with their children. The model has been implemented twice with parents from Romania, Spain, Latvia, Poland, Italy and Sweden with positive results.

This article analyses first the variety in the characteristics of local school inspectorates both in the quantitative (number of teachers) and in the qualitative (social background and geographic dispersion) dimensions. In relation to these, the article examines tne level of endowment (staffing and material) of the inpectorates and concludes to the lack of relationship between the resources mobilized and the needs at the local level. Coherence of Work Based Learning and Regional Development in Latvia

Integration of young people into the labour market is an issue of a high priority. The youth unemployment problem has explicit links to the vocational education and training (VET) system. Since 2009 there is an ongoing reform in the Latvian VET system. In this respect also the role of local governments increases. The paper addresses the issue of introducing innovative approaches in the Latvian VET system. The aim of the study is to estimate the overall readiness of public administrations to implement VET reforms within regional economic development in the context of the EU and national strategic priorities.

Abstract Over the past three decades, after Hofstede presented his proposal about cultural differences, many authors have presented their dimensions of national culture. The aim of this article is to give a synthesis of the proposal from significant authors and show a set of models of cultural dimensions based on theoretical and pragmatic analysis such as models of Hofstede, Trompenaars, GLOBE, Inglehart, Schartz.
