Paradigmi mitici, cifre simboliche e rituale funerario: su alcuni crateri figurati dalle necropoli greche di Sicilia
2021
Baucina (Pa) - Monte Falcone 2014. Indagini nella necropoli
2017
The aim of this report is to present the results of rescue excavations, executed in order to contrast illegal excavation at the necropolis at Baucina, in northwestern Sicily, where Punic, Greek and indigenous traditions coexisted. Their relationship is the focus of the ongoing research. The archaeological dataset demonstrates that the interaction between three different ethnicities resulted in an impressive variety of rituals.
2019
A new contextual analysis is proposed in order to reappraise the well known theatrical images from Lipari. In the wake of the researches made by L. Bernabò Brea and M. Cavalier, the clay masks of comic, satyric and tragic characters and figurines, on one hand, and the “theatrical” vases on the other were reputed to echo or to “illustrate” Greek plays, in the frame of a Dionysian cult. Lastly, A. Schwarzmaier reviewed this thesis, pointing at the ritual context in which the masks were used and deposed in a set of drinking and pouring vases near the grave during the burial, and concluding that they were a visual clue of a Dionysian funerary banquet. Examining again the whole evidence (masks,…
J.-C. Although the four known …
Crateri-cinerari figurati in Sicilia:immagini, rito e credenze religiose
2007
The discovery of a Mycenaean-type tholos tomb in the Bronze Age necropolis of the Gazzi buried floodplain (Messina, Southern Italy): new geological a…
2019
This paper deals with a monument that is, up to this date, unique in Sicily and in the Italian peninsula: the Mycenaean-type tholos tomb of the Gazzi necropolis in Messina. A recent excavation in the alluvial deposits revealed extensive traces of a funerary area with a tholos tomb and several enchytrismos tombs with skeletal remains, presumably dated back to the end of the Early or the initial stage of the Middle(?) Bronze Age. The present multi-disciplinary investigation has been developed to analyse new data related to sediments, building stones and skeletal remains of this funerary area. The stratigraphic succession hosting the necropolis was formed by overbank sediments deposited on the…
