Energy and Network Models for the Intelligent Control of Distributed Systems

2014

This paper presents detailed energy and network models for the intelligent control of a distributed system which also comprises power generation from renewables. The two models provide interactive energy monitoring, intelligent control and power demand balancing at home, block and neighbor level. Particularly, it is here described how the energy model works and also details of how it has been validated are here given. Moreover, it is shown how the energy model simulation results are transferred to the network simulation software SynerGEE, set up by GL Noble Denton Industrial Services Ltd (UK), in order to fully perform network simulations.

Water losses dynamic modelling in water distribution networks

2015

In the last decades, one of the main concerns of the water system managers have been the minimisation of water losses, that frequently reach values of 30% or even 70% of the volume supplying the water distribution network. The economic and social costs associated with water losses in modern water supply systems are rapidly rising to unacceptably high levels. Furthermore, the problem of the water losses assumes more and more importance mainly when periods of water scarcity occur or when not sufficient water supply takes part in areas with fast growth. In the present analysis, a dynamic model was used for estimating real and apparent losses of a real case study. A specific nodal demand model …

Two Levels SPF-Based System to Interconnect Partially Decentralized P2P File Sharing Networks

2005

Partially decentralized P2P (PDP2P) networks are a subset of P2P networks. Roles of nodes are different according to their functionality in the network. Nowadays, there are many PDP2P networks, with different characteristics. It is necessary to find a way to join those autonomous networks. We have not found any interconnection system, so in this article we present a new hierarchical system for interconnecting peers from different PDP2P networks. It will allow sharing data, content and resources between networks. It can be employed between sensor networks, P2P networks, and generally, overlay networks. Oldest superpeers or brokers with higher bandwidth in the PDP2P network will belong to hig…

Modelling the presence of disease under spatial misalignment using Bayesian latent Gaussian models.

2015

Modelling patterns of the spatial incidence of diseases using local environmental factors has been a growing problem in the last few years. Geostatistical models have become popular lately because they allow estimating and predicting the underlying disease risk and relating it with possible risk factors. Our approach to these models is based on the fact that the presence/absence of a disease can be expressed with a hierarchical Bayesian spatial model that incorporates the information provided by the geographical and environmental characteristics of the region of interest. Nevertheless, our main interest here is to tackle the misalignment problem arising when information about possible covar…

Control points deployment in an Intelligent Transportation System for monitoring inter-urban network roadway

2022

Abstract The constant evolution of transportation systems and traffic in developing countries is nowadays confronted with a problem of road safety and therefore of a high accident rate, especially in the context of inter-urban road transport. In this work, we propose a communication architecture for an Intelligent Transport System (ITS) to provide surveillance in an inter-urban transport network in the context of developing countries. We introduce two types of control points: Relay Control Points (RCP) and Treatment Control Points (TrCP). We also designed two multi-objective models for the deployment of these points. In order to ensure good coverage, to minimize the cost of installation and…

Energy Efficient Consensus Over Complex Networks

2015

The need to extract large amounts of information from the environment to have precise situation awareness and then react appropriately to certain events has led to the emergence of complex and heterogeneous sensor networks. In this context, where the sensor nodes are usually powered by batteries, the design of new methods to make inference processes efficient in terms of energy consumption is necessary. One of these processes, which is present in many distributed tasks performed by these complex networks, is the consensus process. This is the basis for certain tracking algorithms in monitoring and control applications. To improve the energy efficiency of this process, in this paper we propo…

Study of elution behaviour with gradient voltage in CEC using methacrylate monolithic columns.

2010

A theoretical study on the retention behaviour and chromatographic performance of neutral solutes using a lauryl methacrylate-based monolithic column under voltage gradient mode in CEC was carried out. Through a flexible mathematical function based on a modified Gaussian model, the peak shape of compounds was firstly fitted under constant and gradient voltage. Using the peak shape parameters and retention time, the estimation of global chromatographic performance, efficiency and peak capacity under several voltage conditions was performed. The influence of voltage gradient on the separation efficiency is discussed and simple equations are presented to calculate retention and peak widths und…
