Surface magnetic structure investigation of a nanolaminated Mn$_2$GaC thin film using a magnetic field microscope based on Nitrogen-Vacancy centers

This work presents a magnetic field imaging method based on color centers in diamond crystal applied to a thin film of a nanolaminated Mn$_2$GaC MAX phase. Magnetic properties of the surface related structures have been described around the first order transition at 214 K by performing measurements in the temperature range between 200 K and 235 K with the surface features fading out by increasing temperature above the transition temperature. Characterization of microscopic ferromagnetic defects in thin films using magnetic microscope based on Nitrogen-Vacancy centres

In this work we present results acquired by applying magnetic field imaging technique based on Nitrogen-Vacancy centres in diamond crystal for characterization of magnetic thin films defects. We used the constructed wide-field magnetic microscope for measurements of two kinds of magnetic defects in thin films. One family of defects under study was a result of non-optimal thin film growth conditions. The magnetic field maps of several regions of the thin films created under very similar conditions to previously published research revealed microscopic impurity islands of ferromagnetic defects, that potentially could disturb the magnetic properties of the surface. The ever-stronger attention paid to enhancing safety in the workplace has led to novel sensor development and improvement. Despite the technological progress, nanostructured sensors are not being commercially transferred due to expensive and non-microelectronic compatible materials and processing approaches. Characterization of SiPM properties at liquid nitrogen temperature

SiPM operation at cryogenic temperatures fails for many common devices. A particular type with deep channels in the silicon substrate instead of quenching resistors was thoroughly characterized from room temperature down to liquid nitrogen temperature by illuminating it with low light levels. The devices were mounted in vacuum with the temperature stabilized to allow long-term operation. SiPM signals from a LED pulser were acquired with single-pixel resolution. Generalized fits to the charge collection spectra were used to extract properties like single-pixel gain, inter-pixel variation, breakdown voltage, and photon detection efficiency. Microscopic observations of superficial ultrastructure of unworn siloxane-hydrogel contact lenses by cryo-scanning electron microscopy

The purpose of this study was to analyze three commercial siloxane-hydrogel contact lens materials, lotrafilcon A, balafilcon A, and galyfilcon A, by cryogenic scanning electron microscopy (cryoSEM). The fully hydrated lenses were frozen in slush liquid nitrogen and qualitatively observed in a cryogenic scanning electron microscope. The superficial ultrastructure of the siloxane-hydrogels was observed at the areas where the lens fractured during sample cryogenic preparation. There are qualitative differences among the three examined materials in the complex polymer network structure existing between the outer layer and the underlying polymer. Performance of sensl C-Series SiPM with high photoelectron resolution at cryogenic temperatures

The C-Series of silicon photomultipliers (SiPM) from SensL provides devices with a fast response and high performance at low cost. The device's ability to detect light at temperatures of liquid nitrogen (77K) and liquid helium (4 K) with high photoelectron resolution was demonstrated. Results include relative photon detection efficiency (PDE), gain, microcell capacitance, and cross-talk probability at different over-voltages, both at room and at cryogenic temperatures. A continuous wave 10 W cryogenic fiber amplifier at 1015 nm and frequency quadrupling to 254 nm

A stable, continuous wave, single frequency fiber amplifier system at 1015 nm with 10W output power is presented. It is based on a large mode double clad fiber cooled to liquid nitrogen temperature. The amplified light is frequency quadrupled to 254 nm and used for spectroscopy of the 6^1S - 6^3P transition in mercury.
