Scattering resonances and Pseudospectrum : stability and completeness aspects in optical and gravitational systems
2022
The general context of this thesis is an effort to establish a bridge between gravitational andoptical physics, specifically in the context of scattering problems using as a guideline concepts andtools taken from the theory of non-self-adjoint operators. Our focus is on Quasi-Normal Modes(QNMs), namely the natural resonant modes of open leaky structures under linear perturbationssubject to outgoing boundary conditions. They also are referred to as scattering resonances. In the conservative self-adjoint case the spectral theorem guarantees the completeness andspectral stability of the associated normal modes. In this sense, a natural question in the non-self-adjoint setting refers to the char…
2012
In 2005 the Argentinian writer Eduardo Sacheri published The Question in Their Eyes (La pregunta de sus ojos). The novel narrates on a double level, both fictional and temporal, the decision of a retired prosecutor to come to terms with a case of rape and murder which had taken place years earlier: his life had been shattered by the consequences of that tragedy, and writing about it would be a way to start living again. The director Juan José Campanella - widely famous for having directed episodes of the television series Law & Order, but especially as the director of successful films such as El hijo de la novia - decided to adapt the novel and involved Sacheri in the project: the close c…
"Nodier and sadism: the "monstrous turpitudes" of Smarra"
2021
Nodier studies have scarcely examined the relationship between Nodier and Sade, the first one having apparently done everything to lessen his interest in the sulphurous work of the marquis. However, little is known, Nodier is the inventor, or the propagator of the word “sadism” in the French language, which appeared for the first time in 1834, in the 8th edition of the "Dictionnaire Universel" by Boiste, that, precisely, revised, amended and largely amplified by Nodier. The objective of this article is to shed light on this immorality-stricken relationship between a writer concerned about his reputation and in search of respectability (Nodier was elected to the Académie française in 1833, a…
Epidemiological survey on 'Candidatus Phytoplasma solani' and putative vectors in Western Sicily
2018
Bois noir (BN) associated with ‘Candidatus Phytoplasma solani’ is an important grapevine yellows disease widespread in Europe and Mediterranean regions. During a two years survey (2014-15) carried out in a 10-year-old vineyard located in San Giuseppe Jato (PA), symptoms of Bois noir were observed on cvs Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Nero d’ Avola. Incidence of the disease increased over the two years, reaching values of about 34 % on cv Chardonnay. Ca. ‘P. solani’ was detected on symptomatic leaf samples from all cultivars with the highest percentage on cv Chardonnay followed by Pinot noir and Nero d’Avola. Further surveys were performed in order to highlight the epidemiology of the disease by…

Le pantheon africain
2014
Phenological model performance to warmer conditions: application to Pinot noir in Burgundy.
2014
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Aim</strong>: The current work aims to assess the performance of two phenological models - a linear model (<em>Grapevine Flowering</em> <em>Véraison</em> model, <em>GFV</em>) and a curvilinear model (<em>Wang and</em> <em>Engel</em> model, <em>WE</em>) - to warmer temperature conditions for the grapevine variety Pinot noir in Burgundy.</p><p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Methods and results</strong>: Simulations using historical data from the 1973-2005 period were similar between models and consistent with observations. To mimic pot…
