Background: Models based on using perturbative polarization corrections and mean-field blocking approxima- tion give conflicting results for masses of odd nuclei. Purpose: We systematically investigate the polarization and mean-field models, implemented within self- consistent approaches that use identical interactions and model spaces, to find reasons for the conflicts between them. Sequence analysis of the DRB1 promoter reveals limited polymorphism with no influence on gene expression.

HLA-class II promoters contain a set of conserved regulatory regions necessary for constitutive and induced gene expression. For the HLA-DQB as well as for the DRB1 promoter sequence, polymorphisms with influence on gene expression have been reported. In contrast to these data we could show that there is very limited allele-specific polymorphism among the HLA-DRB1 promoter alleles. In a long range PCR we amplified a DNA sequence containing the promoter and the second exon of the DRB1 gene in one fragment. Evolving collective structures in the transitional nuclei 162W and 164W

Excited states in the neutron-deficient nuclides 162 74 W88 and 164 74 W90 were investigated by using the γ -ray spectrometer Jurogam. A change in structure is apparent from the first rotational alignments in 162W and 164W, whose rotationally aligned bands are interpreted as ν(h9/2) 2 and ν(i13/2) 2 configurations, respectively. The level schemes have been extended using recoil (-decay) correlations with the observation of excited collective structures. Configuration assignments have been made on the basis of comparisons of the deduced aligned angular momentum, as a function of rotational frequency, with the predictions of the cranked shell model. peerReviewed
First evidence of multiple β-delayed neutron emission for isotopes with a > 100

The β-delayed neutron emission probability, Pn, of very neutron-rich nuclei allows us to achieve a better understanding of the nuclear structure above the neutron separation energy, Sn. The emission of neutrons can become the dominant decay process in neutron-rich astrophysical phenomena such as the rapid neutron capture process (r-process). There are around 600 accessible isotopes for which β-delayed one-neutron emission (β1n) is energetically allowed, but the branching ratio has only been determined for about one third of them. β1n decays have been experimentally measured up to the mass A ∼ 150, plus a single measurement of 210Tl. High-sensitivity study of levels in 30Al following β decay of 30Mg

γ -ray and fast-timing spectroscopy were used to study levels in 30Al populated following the β− decay of 30Mg. Five new transitions and three new levels were located in 30Al. A search was made to identify the third 1+ state expected at an excitation energy of ∼2.5 MeV. Two new levels were found, at 3163.9 and 3362.5 keV, that are firm candidates for this state. Using the advanced time-delayed (ATD) βγγ (t) method we have measured the lifetime of the 243.8-keV state to be T1/2 = 15(4) ps, which implies that the 243.8-keV transition is mainly of M1 character. Its fast B(M1; 2+ → 3+) value of 0.10(3) W.u. is in very good agreement with the USD shell-model prediction of 0.090 W.u. The 1801.5-k…

Studying Gamow-Teller transitions and the assignment of isomeric and ground states at $N=50$

Direct mass measurements of neutron-deficient nuclides around the N=50 shell closure below $^{100}$Sn were performed at the FRS Ion Catcher (FRS-IC) at GSI, Germany. The nuclei were produced by projectile fragmentation of $^{124}$Xe, separated in the fragment separator FRS and delivered to the FRS-IC. The masses of 14 ground states and two isomers were measured with relative mass uncertainties down to 1×10−7 using the multiple-reflection time-of-flight mass spectrometer of the FRS-IC, including the first direct mass measurements of $^{98}$Cd and $^{97}$Rh. A new QEC=5437±67 keV was obtained for $^{98}$Cd, resulting in a summed Gamow-Teller (GT) strength for the five observed transitions (0+…
