Prevalence and Prognostic Impact of Diabetes in Takotsubo Syndrome: Insights From the International, Multicenter GEIST Registry

OBJECTIVE In view of low prevalence rates, diabetes is discussed as a protective factor for the occurrence of Takotsubo syndrome (TTS). Furthermore, it was associated with improved outcome in a small single-center analysis. Therefore, this study assessed the prevalence and prognostic relevance of concomitant diabetes in TTS. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS A total of 826 patients with TTS were enrolled in an international, multicenter, registry-based study (eight centers in Italy and Germany). The Effects of Using High-Fidelity Simulation in Undergraduate Nursing Education: A Multicenter Randomized Controlled Trial with a Process Evaluation

Abstract The overall aim of this study was to examine the effects of a high-fidelity simulation on the knowledge and self-confidence of a total of 177 undergraduate nursing students in recognizing and responding to hypovolemia. A randomized experimental pre- and post-test research design with a process evaluation was employed. A significantly larger proportion of students in the intervention group than in the control group increased the number of correct responses in their knowledge and levels of self-confidence postintervention. As enablers for the successful implementation of the intervention, a need for a safe environment, fidelity, and learning in different roles were identified.

Clinical Nurses Research Priorities in Hospital Settings: A Delphi Survey

This study aimed to identify the research priorities of clinical nurses to develop a research program at a health care services system that includes three hospitals. A Delphi survey was emailed to all clinical nurses in two rounds. The Delphi method was used to collect data from the nurses in regards to their priority research themes, and the data were analyzed using descriptive and comparative statistics. A total of 933 clinical nurses returned the first round of the Delphi survey and 543 nurses answered the second round. Clinical nurses identified 89 potential research themes. Abstract Background The aim of this study was to assess nurses’ self-reported confidence in their professional skills before and after an extensive Emergency Department (ED) reform in Kanta-Häme Central Hospital. Methods Emergency nurses participated in transitional training commencing two years before the establishment of the new organization in 2007. Training was followed by weekly practical educational sessions in the new ED.
