BACKGROUND: During the postnatal feeding period, formula-fed infants have higher cholesterol synthesis rates and lower circulating cholesterol concentrations than their breastfed counterparts. Fanconi anemia (FA) has been investigated since early studies based on two definitions, namely defective DNA repair and proinflammatory condition. The former definition has built up the grounds for FA diagnosis as excess sensitivity of patients' cells to xenobiotics as diepoxybutane and mitomycin C, resulting in typical chromosomal abnormalities. Evolution of yeast populations during different biodynamic winemaking processes

This work was performed to evaluate the evolution of indigenous yeasts during wine productions carried out following the principles of biodynamic agriculture. Five trials were designed with different technological interventions consisting of the addition of nitrogen (in the form of ammonium salt), thiamine salt, oxygen, and pied de cuvee at varying concentrations. Plasma polyunsaturated fatty acids are directly associated with cognition in overweight children but not in normal weight children

We investigated the associations between plasma polyunsaturated fatty acids and cognition in normal weight and overweight children. Methods The study recruited 386 normal weight children and 58 overweight children aged six to eight years and blood samples were drawn after a 12-hour fast. Background : A new web-based food frequency questionnaire (the ASSO–FFQ) was developed within the ASSO Project funded by the Italian Ministry of Health. Objective : The aim of the present study is to assess the validity of the ASSO–FFQ at food groups, energy, and nutrients level. Design and subjects : The validation study compared the ASSO–FFQ against a weighted food record (WFR) measuring foods, beverages and supplements intake, compiled during the week following the ASSO–FFQ administration. Diseases have become a primary constraint to sustainable aquaculture, but remarkably little attention has been paid to a broad class of pathogens: the opportunists. Opportunists often persist in the environment outside the host, and their pathogenic features are influenced by changes in the environment. Application of the General Model "Biological Nutrient Removal Model No.1" to upgrade two full-scale WWTPs

In this paper, two practical case studies for upgrading two wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) using the general model BNRM1 (Biological Nutrient Removal Model No. 1) are presented. In the first case study, the Tarragona WWTP was upgraded by reducing the phosphorus load to the anaerobic digester in order to minimize the precipitation problems.
