The Hydraulic space of the Conca d'Oro of Palermo as a paradigm of the Mediterranean water sensitive city.
2016
The orchards TAL on Palermo periurban countryside follows the Arab conception of hydraulic space. The concept of Hydraulic space combines several technologies to achieve the best use of water resources by differentiating agricultural productions in time and space and by connecting different functions (hydraulic, climatic and aesthetic) in a homogeneous system. This conception of space extends to the whole Conca d’Oro across the countryside to the heart of the historical town to the intimate domestic space in the end. During the Norman age the Zisa source used to refresh and embellish the interior of the castle before water slides towards the gardens; on the surface of Fawara-Maredolce lake …

The planning process for the preparation of the Structural Plan of the Province of Potenza provides the definition of criteria for the housing dimension, in an area undergoing reduction of the resident population, in which it is necessary to find strategies to recycle abandoned buildings , for the densification of the urbanized spaces and the reduction of current cubic capacity . The rule provides that the regional Lucan Province is the subject that provides intermediate in advance to the definition of policies for development and construction of housing, on the basis of an average size of urban centers which necessitates a phase of co-ordination of urban expansions. Dopo le città di fondazione
2020
The period of the founding cities of the twentieth century is a significa…

Cities facing the Wild
2021
Untamed ecosystems and plots of wild nature increasingly constitute large parts of contemporary urban spaces. They are often the unbidden result of a long-standing lack of maintenance as well as of the uncontrolled flourishing of weeds produced by the pesticide absolute ban. But they are also something more. Many recently implemented urban open spaces deal with wild nature to solve some of the most urgent tasks of the contemporary cities: reclaiming areas fallen into disuse, designing sustainable infrastructures, revitalizing valuable public spaces, enhancing the ecological footprint of new developments, suggesting new practices and social ritual, reducing management costs, fighting climate…

Sub specie æternitatis: the role of the ruin and the ancient in the process of architectural renewal between metamorphosis and resurgence
2022
Composing new works of architecture inspired by vestiges from antiquity or archaeology. The reflections and the case study which will be proposed, pertaining to a recent design experiment for the archaeological area and Antiquarium of Tyndaris, are dedicated to this theme. Over and above any charm exerted by such places, by landscapes in which the ruins appear identical in substance and which sometimes manifest themselves as “sub specie æternitatis”, there are reasons linked to the very profession of architect and to the gashes in the crucible of controversies around the role of history in its contentious relationship with architectural design. That apart, the aporias revealed by Michel Fou…
