Are alternative food networks winning strategies to increase organic SMEs profitability? Evidence from a case study

The aim of this study was to understand how and how much alternative food networks (AFNs) contribute to increasing the profitability of the organic SMEs, compared to traditional organic sales channels. For this purpose, an economic analysis and an in-depth interview were carried out in a case study located in the Sicilian northern coast. Findings showed a clear convenience of the participation to alternative food networks compared to the case in which all farm production was conferred to traditional sales channels, highlighting an increase both of farm profit (+76.9%) and net income (+72.1%). Effects of ocean acidification on embryonic respiration and development of a temperate wrasse living along a natural CO2gradient

We assessed rising CO2 effects on metabolism and development of a nesting wrasse by reciprocal transplant experiments in the field. Offspring brooded under different CO2 conditions exhibited similar responses. However, embryos from High-CO2 site were resilient to a wider range of pCO2 levels than those belonging to current-day conditions.

The larva is polyphagous and able to develop on more than 25 plant species, several of them being more suitable than Vitaceae for the fitness of L. botrana. Renewable energy growth and the financial performance of electric utilities: A panel data study

Electric utilities are under pressure to increase clean energy production. Although the adoption of renewable energy can improve the utilities' environmental performance, a fundamental question is if it also pays in economic terms. Building on the natural-resource-based view of the firm, we answer this question using two data analysis methods. First, we carry out a regression analysis of panel data from 66 large electric utilities covering the period 2005–2014, applying both a fixed and random effects estimator.
