Safety Concerns on Ground Fault Application Transfer Phenomenon in HV Installations
2007
When a fault to ground occurs in HV/MV substations supplied by a combined overhead-cable line, most of the fault current can be transferred and injected into the soil several kilometers far away from the fault location. This phenomenon is called "fault application transfer" and mostly concerns transition stations, where cables are connected to the overhead line. If the transition station is a dead-end steel pole structure, usually accessible to the general public, the local ground electrode could be inadequate to maintain ground potential rise within safety limits. Hence, dangerous touch and step voltages may appear at exposed locations. In the paper results of various computer simulations …
Il tarantismo in Sicilia
2017
2011
This paper considers the phenomenon of migration, by proposing a case study upon the migration of Romanians in Italy. As a consequence of the access of Romania in the UE in January 2007, Romanians became citizens of UE, but, nevertheless, they are not aware of their rights and juridical statute and continue to live in a state of subordination and humility in their interaction with their employers. They do not rebel, since they are afraid of losing their working place. This is a step backwards as to the process of integration, which, as Buttitta noticed, should not lead to a "standardization of the immigrants to the culture of the host country, but to an acceptance of immigrants, as part of …
Polynomial mapped bases: theory and applications
2022
Abstract In this paper, we collect the basic theory and the most important applications of a novel technique that has shown to be suitable for scattered data interpolation, quadrature, bio-imaging reconstruction. The method relies on polynomial mapped bases allowing, for instance, to incorporate data or function discontinuities in a suitable mapping function. The new technique substantially mitigates the Runge’s and Gibbs effects.
Observation of Optical Undular Bores in Multiple Four-Wave Mixing
2014
International audience; We demonstrate that wave-breaking dramatically affects the dynamics of nonlinear frequency conversion processes that operate in the regime of high efficiency (strong multiple four-wave mixing). In particular, by exploiting an all-optical-fiber platform, we show that input modulations propagating in standard telecom fibers in the regime of weak normal dispersion lead to the formation of undular bores (dispersive shock waves) that mimic the typical behavior of dispersive hydrodynamics exhibited, e.g., by gravity waves and tidal bores. Thanks to the nonpulsed nature of the beat signal employed in our experiment, we are able to clearly observe how the periodic nature of …
Reading and company: embodiment and social space in silent reading practices
2017
Reading, even when silent and individual, is a social phenomenon and has often been studied as such. Complementary to this view, research has begun to explore how reading is embodied beyond simply ...
Aproximaciones Psicosociales a la Corrupción: Una Revisión Teórica
2017
Corruption is widespread in current societies; despite its social relevance, it has been studied mostly from economic perspectives. The article reviews and critically analyzes corruption from different social psychology approaches, both in the Anglophone and Latin American settings. Regarding the former, the article highlights the influence of peer behaviors and social norms, risk perceptions, the role of emotions, behavioral ethics and the relationship of corruption to power Regarding the latter, the Latin American models focus on the influence of supra-individual structures such as ethical values and institutions on the individual’s conduct. It is proposed that research on this topic look…
