Incoherent solitons and condensation processes
2006
International audience; We study the nonlinear interaction of partially incoherent nonlinear optical waves. We show that, in spite of the incoherence of the waves, coherent phase effects may play a relevant role during the propagation, in contrast with the usual wave turbulence description of the interaction. These nonlinear phase effects may lead the system to unexpected processes of self-organization, such as condensation, or incoherent soliton generation in instantaneous response nonlinear media. Such self-organization processes may be characterized by a reduction of the non-equilibrium entropy, which violates the Boltzmann's H-theorem of entropy growth inherent to the wave turbulence th…
Measuring the differential scattering cross-section of gold nanoparticles - art. no. 70321E
2008
International audience; In this paper we present an experimental apparatus capable of measuring the differential scattering cross sections of individual nanoparticles and arrangement of nanoparticles. We show that the mapping a partial differential scattering cross section, qualitative information about the electromagnetic local density of states dominated by evanescent modes scattered by the structure can be obtained.
Effect of Decentration on the Optical Quality of Two Intraocular Lenses
2016
To analyze the effect of decentration on the optical quality of two diffractive-refractive intraocular lenses, a bifocal and a trifocal, when displaced laterally (horizontal direction) from the center. The AT LISA 809M IOL (+3.75 D add) with two main foci and the AT LISA tri 839MP intraocular lens with three main foci (Carl Zeiss Meditec AG, Jena, Germany) were analyzed. The optical quality of the intraocular lenses was measured with the PMTF (power and modulation transfer function [MTF] measurement for refractive and diffractive intraocular lenses) optical bench (Lambda-X, Nivelles, Belgium). The optical quality of the lenses was evaluated by the MTF at different object vergences, the avera…
Optical Quality Comparison between Spherical and Aspheric Toric Intraocular Lenses
2014
Purpose To measure and compare the optical quality of spherical and aspheric toric intraocular lenses (IOLs). Methods Wavefront aberrations of AcrySof Toric and IQ Toric IOLs (Alcon Laboratories) for different powers were measured at 3- and 5-mm pupils by Nimo TR0805 instrument. The Zernike coefficients of trefoil, coma, tetrafoil, secondary astigmatism, and spherical aberration were evaluated. The point spread functions (PSFs) of each IOL evaluated were calculated from the wavefront aberrations. The PSF images also were calculated from the IOL wavefront aberrations, adding the cornea's aberrations to simulate the optical quality after their implantation. Results Spherical toric IOLs showed…
A rapid method for measuring intraocular lens power in vitro with a focimeter.
2015
In this paper we describe a new method for measuring the intraocular lens (IOL) power using a focimeter, a negative ophthalmic lens and a saline solution (0.9% NaCl). To test this we measured the power of 58 different IOLs and we compared them with the power stated by the manufacturer. Despite the limitations, the results show a good correlation.
Weld pool surface temperature measurement from polarization state of thermal emission
2014
This paper presents a passive polarimetry method using a division of aperture optical device in order to measure the temperature distribution at the weld pool surface. Thermal emission from a hot liquid metal was investigated at a near-infrared wavelength corresponding to a blind spectral window of a helium plasma generated during gas tungsten arc welding process. The refractive index of liquid metal and the surface radiance are deduced from the polarisation state of thermal emissions. Based upon the knowledge of both characteristics, the temperature distribution can be calculated. Conseil Régional de Bourgogne
Near IR stationary wave Fourier transform lambda meter in lithium niobate: multiplexing and improving optical sampling using spatially shifted nanogr…
2021
Several integrated optics solutions currently exist to develop monolithic, robust, and lightweight high-resolution spectrometers for spatial applications. An interesting option is generating a stationary wave inside a single-mode waveguide, and sampling the interference fringes using dielectric discontinuities on the surface of the waveguide. This allows the recording of the signal on a detector on top of the waveguide, and using dedicated Fourier transform methods to recover the spectrum of the source. All the difficulty is then linked to the length of the interferogram that is sampled. This determines the spectral resolution and the spacing between sampling centers, which are ultimately l…
WAVEFRONT TESTER: Un nuevo laboratorio virtual para el estudio de los sensores frente de onda.
2016
[EN] We present a new virtual laboratory developed with MatlabcGUI (Graphical User Interface) used toteach di erent aberration eff ects in the "Tecnologi a de Sensores Optoelectr onicos" at "Escuela T ecnicaSuperior de Ingenier a del Diseño" of the Universitat Polit ecnica de Val encia. The objective of this lab is to provide a computer tool to study the working principle of a Shack Hartman sensor and the parameters that determine the dynamic range of the same. Some examples made with di fferent aberrations (defocus, astigmatism, coma) and for diff erent sensor con gurations are presented.
A Scanning Technique to Measure Regional Cerebral Blood Flow and Oxyhemoglobin Level
2001
OBJECTIVE: The application of a laser scanning technique to measure regional cerebral blood flow (CBF) and tissue hemoglobin oxygenation (HbO 2 ) using the rat closed cranial window preparation is described. METHODS: Twenty-nine male Wistar rats were used to consecutively measure local CBF by laser Doppler flowmetry and tissue HbO 2 by a microspectrophotometric method at multiple corresponding cortical locations. The scanning technique used a computer-controlled micromanipulator. Data from three experimental models are presented: the whisker stimulation model, the ischemia-reperfusion model, and the sinus-vein thrombosis model. Sequential changes in local CBF and HbO 2 data before, during, …
Lack of effect of intraocular lens asphericity on visual performance with acrylic intraocular lenses.
2011
Purpose. To determine whether implantation of acrylic intraocular lens (IOL) with aspheric design (Tecnis Z9003, AMO) results in improved visual acuity or contrast sensitivity compared with conventional spherical acrylic IOL (AR40e, AMO). Methods. In an intraindividual randomized prospective study of 60 patients with bilateral cataract, the Tecnis Z9003 IOL was compared with the AR40e IOL. Ocular aberrations for a 4.0-mm pupil and 6.0-mm pupil were measured with a Hartmann-Shack aberrometer. Quality of vision was measured using visual acuity and contrast sensitivity under mesopic and photopic conditions. Results. Eyes with the Tecnis Z9003 IOL had significantly less spherical aberration and…
