2020

2021

This note refers to the recent publication of the critical edition of the Canzoniere by Guidotto Prestinari, a fifteenth-sixteenth-century poet from Bergamo, prepared by Marco Robecchi. This is an excellent edition, which fits well into the current panorama of studies on “minor” Italian poetry between the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries.

2022

This article attempts to address the specificities of the Silesia on the example of selected poems by contemporary female and male authors who feel connected to this corner in the center of Europe and searching for their own identity. The research methodology revolves around biographical threads related to the turbulent history of Silesia, which has shaped the destiny of these writers. The national aspects of Silesia’s historical past are reflected in the subject matter of the lyrical works presented. At the same time, the regional perspective is broken by themes and threads relating to poetic reflections on human existence. It should be emphasized that the poems presented hardly belong to …

The lai “Si bé, Fortuna, has dat lo torn”: a critical edition of the catalan poem from the novel Triste deleitación

2019

The Castilian novel Triste deleitación, written in the late fifteenth century by an author from the Crown of Aragon, includes several letters and poems. One of these poems, “Sy bé, Fortuna, as dat lo torn”, is written in Catalan. This article presents the poem’s annotated critical edition, which reports how it is indebted to the Catalan lyrical tradition. Written in an evolved form of the French lai cultivated by various Catalan poets, the poem is clearly influenced by Pere Torroella’s lai “Qui volrà veure un pobre estat”, and linked to two other similar lais also dependent on Torroella’s. This edition is completed by a translation into modern Catalan.

2018

The present article attempts to establish as accurately as possible the chronological trajectory of the unique codex of the Cancionero de Baena (PN1 in the Dutton nomenclature). It begins with a detailed examination of the codicological aspects of the manuscript, which serve to date its origin to around 1465. This origin, combined with the historical data, supports a conjecture that the manuscript probably belonged to Gonzalo de Beteta, an official of both Enrique IV and the Catholic Kings. It would have passed from him to his grandson, Jorge de Beteta y Cardenas, who gave it to the Real Biblioteca de El Escorial in 1576. The article then follows the vicissitudes of the manuscript from its …

2016

In this essay we address one of the most important poetic subgenres in the tradition of Carmelite women: the works composed for ceremonies of vestition and solemn profession in which the nuns left behind his mundane life and opened a new life as the wife of Jesus. First of all, we provide a general overview of the customs and functions of the poetry in the Discalced Carmelites, which has been already analysed in the context of the Hispanic literature, but rarely from the perspective of the Catalan area. Secondly, we present and contextualize a corpus of twenty-five unpublished compositions on vestitions and professions, copied in the manuscript of the Discalced Carmelites of Barcelona. En a…
