Enterotoxigenic staphylococci and their toxins in restaurant foods

Abstract This review presents an overview of the enterotoxigenic staphylococci and their toxins in restaurant foods, with special reference to the characteristics of these micro-organisms and their enterotoxins. Furthermore, this paper reviews the staphylococcal food poisoning outbreaks, principal sources of contamination and food safety measures that can be applied to eliminate the presence of enterotoxigenic staphylococci in restaurant foods.

Significance With our comprehensive set of field (model survival), laboratory (controlled learning, palatability, toxin analysis), and molecular data, we provide evidence that polymorphism can persist in an aposematic population, despite expectations of positive frequency-dependent selection. We show that this can happen if prey species carrying a strong signal can exploit predator learning to elicit broad avoidance of many signals, even if predators only have experience with a single signal. We showed in previous studies the importance of glutathione (GSH) metabolism in pesticide resistance of the European eel Anguilla anguilla L. Sonchus oleraceus Linn. is of great interest in scientific platform because it exhibits significant biological activities. This study investigated the liver protective effects and mechanism of phenolic extract from S. oleraceus (SOL) on Streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. SOL significantly increased both superoxide dismutase activity and glutathione level, while causing a reduction of malondialdehyde level in the liver. Moreover, SOL ameliorates STZ-induced liver function and pathological damages. The oxygen status of arterial human blood is described at least by four variables: Oxygen partial pressure (pO2, mmHg), oxygen saturation (sO2, %), hemoglobin content (cHb, g/dL) and oxygen content (cO2, mL/dL). Beside perfusion, however, the oxygen supply of all organs is decisively determined by the mean capillary pO2 which itself is primarily dependent on the arterial cO2. Therefore, the oxygen availability (cardiac output x caO2, mL/min) may be described by the cO2 value in arterial blood or those variables who determine the latter one.
