Resilience of Mediterranean Forests to Climate Change
2017
In the Mediterranean region, forests play a key role in the welfare of urban and rural peoples, by providing highly appreciated marketed goods as well as high value but nonmarket services. Anthropogenic climate change entails a significant impact on Mediterranean forests, such as the reduced species diversity, high density, pest, and diseases. In this chapter, we present the achievements of the project LIFE ResilForMed (Resilience of Mediterranean Forests to climate change), as Sicilian responds on adaptation and mitigation to climate change: (i) map of Sensitivity Forest Areas to desertification of the Sicilian region; (ii) list of bird indicators showing sensitivity to desertification in …
EDU-SOCIAL ALGORITHM: A METHODOLOGICAL MODEL FOR USING SMARTPHONES AND INSTAGRAM IN GENERATION ALPHA’S EDUCATION THROUGH A COMMUNITY OF VIRTUAL PRACT…
2023
The Edu-social Algorithm research project aims to construct a micro-pedagogical, experimental, digital research action to create a methodological model using the functions and algorithms found in social media used by Generation Alpha (specifically Instagram). The project is the manifestation of an explorative research path seeking to alter the algorithms that form the basis of all the major platforms in current cyberspace, and in “Big Tech”. This alteration is possible through the development of a community of virtual practice, consisting of students and faculty working within Instagram through an interactive approach, to take pedagogical advantage of their mobile phones and apps. The quali…
Pratiques monétaires et dynamiques hyperinflationnistes : étude historique et théorique
2019
This thesis seeks to define a typology of the hyperinflationary crises based on the study of several cases observed in history, but also in terms parallel monetary practices of economic actors. It also seeks to find an alternative solution about the hyperinflationary phenomenon. In its theoretical dimension, this thesis mobilizes post-Kenesian, neo-structuralist and institutionalist theoretical framework. In its historical and comparative dimension, it studies several cases observed in history to determine a typology of the phenomenon hyperinflationary — which has allowed to distinguish two main types of hyperinflation. As a way out of hyperinflation, this thesis comes up with a system (mon…
Les pratiques pédagogiques en première année universitaire: description et analyse de leurs implications sur la scolarité des étudiants
2014
In France, there is little research on university teaching and focusing specifically on teaching practices. This present research aims to explore this concept in two different ways. The first part focuses on the description of the practices implemented by teachers during first-year university lectures. Using in situ observation of lecture practices of 49 teachers from five programmes, we first show that teachers’ practices mostly rely on traditional methods as defined by Bru (2006). However, we show a variety of practices among teachers. The second part of this research updates our knowledge of the implications of these practices on student studies. 734 freshmen from these sectors were inte…
The competency-based approach in developing countries : effects of curricular reforms in Sub-Saharan Africa
2013
For decades, all analyzes converge on the idea of the relative inefficiency of education systems in sub-Saharan Africa. Dropout, repetition, overstaffing, low quality of learning student failure and obsolescence of facilities, teaching materials and teachers, including sometimes the levels and quality of education remain somewhat uncertain, inadequate educational programs. In short, these are some of the ills that plague these systems and confirm the findings made by many reports. Given this weakness finding, educational authorities, supported by international aid mobilized in many countries to improve their systems to qualitatively, but also quantitatively equity because we must not forget…
Good practices and actions for sustainable municipal solid waste management in the tourist sector
2018
This paper deals with waste management in the tourism sector, specifically in the agro-tourism structures. Two regions of Romania and Italy have been considered as case studies in order to promote good practices and actions for sustainable municipal solid waste management. Specific criteria to adopt for the sustainable consumption of beverages and food and for the sustainable use of packaging of various types have been analyzed and suggested. The adoption of an indicator at the level of the single tourist structure has been proposed to help self-analysis that is aimed at setting the priorities of intervention for improving its environmental sustainability.
Nitrous oxide emission by agricultural soils: a review of spatial and temporal variability for mitigation
2012
CT3 ; EnjS4; International audience; This short review deals with soils as an important source of the greenhouse gas N2O. The production and consumption of N2O in soils mainly involve biotic processes: the anaerobic process of denitrification and the aerobic process of nitrification. The factors that significantly influence agricultural N2O emissions mainly concern the agricultural practices (N application rate, crop type, fertilizer type) and soil conditions (soil moisture, soil organic C content, soil pH and texture). Large variability of N2O fluxes is known to occur both at different spatial and temporal scales. Currently new techniques could help to improve the capture of the spatial va…
The Flipped Classroom: a Way to Decrease Boredom and Encourage Student Motivation.
