Derrotabilidad y ponderación. Sobre la posibilidad de revisiones estables
2012
Pincìpi e naufragi: alcune critiche alla nuova filosofia per il diritto internazionale di Ronald Dworkin e il caso emblematico delle politiche in att…
2022
This contribution critically analyzes Ronald Dworkin's New Philosophy for International Law, by underlying how, his theory of law as interpretation, if transposed to the level of the relations between states, more clearly shows some weaknesses which are mainly connected with the ideality of its fundamental assumptions. After having introduced the fundamental aspects of Dworkin's reflection on international law, the specific contents of the particular principles - of mitigation and salience - that Dworkin places at the basis of his vision of international law are critically analyzed in the face of the prerogatives of contemporary national sovereignty and in relation to the structural limits …
Principles, balancing, and the separation between law and morals: on neo-constitutionalism and its critics
2011
Connexive Logic, Probabilistic Default Reasoning, and Compound Conditionals
2023
We present two approaches to investigate the validity of connexive principles and related formulas and properties within coherence-based probability logic. Connexive logic emerged from the intuition that conditionals of the form if not-A, then A, should not hold, since the conditional’s antecedent not-A contradicts its consequent A. Our approaches cover this intuition by observing that the only coherent probability assessment on the conditional event A | not-A is p(A | not-A) = 0. In the first approach we investigate connexive principles within coherence-based probabilistic default reasoning, by interpreting defaults and negated defaults in terms of suitable probabilistic constraints on con…
Consultare per valutare
2020
This chapter examines the consultation within the policy process, presenting its general characteristics. Specific consultation techniques are dealt with, highlighting for each of them the strengths and weaknesses defined also on the basis of the cognitive objectives that we intend to achieve and indi…
Site symmetry approach applied to the supercell model of MgAl2O4 spinel with oxygen interstitials: Ab initio calculations
2018
This study has been carried out within the framework of the EUROfusion Consortium and has been provided funding from the Euratom research and training programme 2014-2018 under grant agreement No 633053. The authors are indebted to E.A. Kotomin, A.I. Popov and R. Vila for stimulating discussions. The views and opinions expressed herein do not necessarily reflect those of the European Commission. Calculations have been performed using both the Marconi supercomputer system at the Computational Simulation Centre (Italy) and the Computer Center of St. Petersburg State University.
Designed for unanticipated use
2003
Common artefacts have been identified as fundamental characteristics for framing activities in workplaces. Mike Robinson's article 'Design for unanticipated use...' conceptualised and defined the dimensions of common artefacts as consisting of predictability, peripheral awareness, implicit communication, double level language and overview. These dimensions have often been used in explaining unexpected uses of different applications and systems. In this paper, experiences from common artefacts as CSCW application design principles, indicating that unanticipated uses are expected and further supported, are discussed. Two distinct cases, a physical room and a software application, are presente…
MODERATE DEVIATION PRINCIPLES FOR BIFURCATING MARKOV CHAINS: CASE OF FUNCTIONS DEPENDENT OF ONE VARIABLE
2021
The main purpose of this article is to establish moderate deviation principles for additive functionals of bifurcating Markov chains. Bifurcating Markov chains are a class of processes which are indexed by a regular binary tree. They can be seen as the models which represent the evolution of a trait along a population where each individual has two offsprings. Unlike the previous results of Bitseki, Djellout \& Guillin (2014), we consider here the case of functions which depend only on one variable. So, mainly inspired by the recent works of Bitseki \& Delmas (2020) about the central limit theorem for general additive functionals of bifurcating Markov chains, we give here a moderate deviatio…
Nonlinear Nonhomogeneous Elliptic Problems
2019
We consider nonlinear elliptic equations driven by a nonhomogeneous differential operator plus an indefinite potential. The boundary condition is either Dirichlet or Robin (including as a special case the Neumann problem). First we present the corresponding regularity theory (up to the boundary). Then we develop the nonlinear maximum principle and present some important nonlinear strong comparison principles. Subsequently we see how these results together with variational methods, truncation and perturbation techniques, and Morse theory (critical groups) can be used to analyze different classes of elliptic equations. Special attention is given to (p, 2)-equations (these are equations driven…
