Genus im DaF-Unterricht in Italien: Was sagen Lehrwerke und Grammatiken?
2011
For foreign language students gender seems to be a great problem. This article about the teachability and learnability of German gender wants to show what Italian students learn about it and how they do so (and also how they could do it better).
An Interactive Demonstration of Collaborative VR for Laparoscopic Liver Surgery Training
2019
We introduce a collaborative virtual reality (VR) system for planning and simulation in laparoscopic liver surgery training. Patient image data is used for surgical model visualization and simulation. We developed two modes for training in laparoscopic procedures: exploration and surgery mode. Surgical joysticks are used in surgery mode to provide training for psychomotor skills and cooperation between a camera assistant and an experienced surgeon. Continuous feedback from our clinical partner comprised an important part of the development. Our evaluation showed that surgeons were positive about the usability and usefulness of the developed system. For further details, please refer to our f…
An FPGA based Topological Processor Prototype for the ATLAS Level-1 Trigger Upgrade
2012
By 2014 the LHC will collide proton bunches at 14TeV with an increased instantaneous luminosity up to 3·10³⁴cm⁻²s⁻¹. The resulting higher event rate will challenge the existing ATLAS trigger system. A reduction on the trigger rate can be achieved by selecting interesting channels based on their expected decay topology and thus reducing background. This will be achieved by introducing of a new FPGA based module in the Level-1 trigger: the Topological Processor L1Topo. With L1Topo it will be possible for the first time to concentrate detailed information from the entire calorimeters and the muon detector into a single module. L1Topo will receive a total aggregate bandwidth of 1Tb/s. The data …
The ATLAS Level-1 Calorimeter Trigger: PreProcessor implementation and performance
2012
The PreProcessor system of the ATLAS Level-1 Calorimeter Trigger (L1Calo) receives about 7200 analogue signals from the electromagnetic and hadronic components of the calorimetric detector system. Lateral division results in cells which are pre-summed to so-called Trigger Towers of size 0.1 × 0.1 along azimuth (phi) and pseudorapidity (η). The received calorimeter signals represent deposits of transverse energy. The system consists of 124 individual PreProcessor modules that digitise the input signals for each LHC collision, and provide energy and timing information to the digital processors of the L1Calo system, which identify physics objects forming much of the basis for the full ATLAS fi…
Ultrascale+ for the new ATLAS calorimeter trigger board dedicated to jet identification
2018
To cope with the expected increase in luminosity at the Large Hadron Collider in 2021, the ATLAS collaboration is planning a major detector upgrade to be installed during Long Shutdown 2. As a part of this, the Level 1 trigger, based on calorimeter data, will be upgraded to exploit the fine granularity readout using a new system of Feature EXtractors (FEXs), which each reconstruct different physics objects for the trigger selection. The Jet FEX (jFEX) is one of three FEXs and has been conceived to identify small/large area jets, large area tau leptons, missing transverse energy and the total sum of the transverse energy. The use of the latest generation Xilinx Field Programmable Gate Array …
Structure and characteristics of laser crystallized thin amorphous Si films
2011
Abstract Pure amorphous Si thin films deposited on oxidized crystalline Si surface (111) were crystallized by picosecond UV laser pulses. The Raman scattering spectra show that pulse energy of 330 mJ/cm2 is enough to fully crystallize Si film and further increase of the energy does not improve crystallinity. A large grained polycrystalline Si was obtained as revealed by surface analysis. A significant increase in carrier mobility was observed after laser crystallization.

Convergence of Web 2.0 and Semantic Web: A Semantic Tagging and Searching System for Creating and Searching Blogs
2007
The work presented in this paper aims to combine Latent Semantic Analysis methodology, common sense and traditional knowledge representation in order to improve the dialogue capabilities of a conversational agent. In our approach the agent brain is characterized by two areas: a "rational area", composed by a structured, rule-based knowledge base, and an "associative area", obtained through a data- driven semantic space. Concepts are mapped in this space and their mutual geometric distance is related to their conceptual similarity. The geometric distance between concepts implicitly defines a sub-symbolic relationship net, which can be seen as a new "sub- symbolic semantic layer" automaticall…
Multi-Path U-Net Architecture for Cell and Colony-Forming Unit Image Segmentation
2022
U-Net is the most cited and widely-used deep learning model for biomedical image segmentation. In this paper, we propose a new enhanced version of a ubiquitous U-Net architecture, which improves upon the original one in terms of generalization capabilities, while addressing several immanent shortcomings, such as constrained resolution and non-resilient receptive fields of the main pathway. Our novel multi-path architecture introduces a notion of an individual receptive field pathway, which is merged with other pathways at the bottom-most layer by concatenation and subsequent application of Layer Normalization and Spatial Dropout, which can improve generalization performance for small datase…
Leader election and local identifiers for three‐dimensional programmable matter
2020
International audience; In this paper, we present two deterministic leader election algorithms for programmable matter on the face-centered cubic grid. The face-centered cubic grid is a 3-dimensional 12-regular infinite grid that represents an optimal way to pack spheres (i.e., spherical particles or modules in the context of the programmable matter) in the 3-dimensional space. While the first leader election algorithm requires a strong hypothesis about the initial configuration of the particles and no hypothesis on the system configurations that the particles are forming, the second one requires fewer hypothesis about the initial configuration of the particles but does not work for all pos…
