Background Little is known about the modulation of cortical excitability in the prefrontal cortex during fear processing in humans. Here, we aimed to transiently modulate and test the cortical excitability during fear processing using transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and brain oscillations in theta and alpha frequency bands with electroencephalography (EEG). Methods We conducted two separate experiments (no-TMS and TMS). In the no-TMS experiment, EEG recordings were performed during the instructed fear paradigm in which a visual cue (CS+) was paired with an aversive unconditioned stimulus (electric shock), while the other visual cue was unpaired (CS-). In the TMS experiment, in addit…

Defining sensory descriptors: towards writing rules based on terminology

2007

International audience; Descriptive analysis relies upon the use of sensory descriptors. They are words generally associated to a definition aimed at helping their understanding. However, the writing rules for such definitions remain implicit. The present work is a collaborative attempt from sensory analysts and linguists to get further insight into how definitions are elaborated.Definition formulations were analyzed according to linguistic criteria, syntactic (type and number of nouns, verbs and adjectives) as well as semantic ones (relations of synonymy, metaphor or analogy between the descriptors and their definitions). Such a linguistic analysis was performed on one hundred descriptor d…

Nutritional Profiling and the Value of Processing By-Products from Gilthead Sea Bream (Sparus aurata)

2020

Fish processing industries generate a large volume of discards. In order to fulfil with the principles of a sustainable circular economy, it is necessary to maintain aquaculture by-products in the food chain through the production of high-value biomolecules that can be used as novel ingredients. In this study, we try to give value to the gilthead sea bream by-products, evaluating the composition and the nutritional value of the muscle and six discards commonly obtained from the fish processing industry (fishbone, gills, guts, heads, liver, and skin), which represent ≈ 61% of the whole fish. Significant differences were detected among muscle and by-products for fatty acid and amino acid prof…

Validation of Using Smartphone Built-In Accelerometers to Estimate the Active Energy Expenditures of Full-Time Manual Wheelchair Users with Spinal Co…

2021

[EN] This study aimed to investigate the validity of using built-in smartphone accelerometers to estimate the active energy expenditures of full-time manual wheelchair users with spinal cord injury (SCI). Twenty participants with complete SCI completed 10 5-min daily activities that involved the upper limbs, during which their oxygen consumption and upper limb activity were registered using a portable gas analyzer and a smartphone (placed on the non-dominant arm), respectively. Time series of 1-min averaged oxygen consumption and 55 accelerometer variables (13 variables for each of the four axes and three additional variables for the correlations between axes) were used to estimate three mu…

Measuring trunk orientation with a CMOS camera: feasibility and accuracy.

2007

International audience; The purpose of this study was to develop and validate a new tool to objectively quantify trunk orientation at the bedside, especially dedicated to the measurement of the lateropulsion in acute and subacute stroke patients. We developed software to analyze 2D movement with a CMOS camera (Logitech Quickcam Pro 4000) and to calculate the orientation of a segment defined by two color markers. First, the accuracy, reproducibility and noise when measuring segment orientations were evaluated with the CMOS camera placed in different positions, and second trunk orientation was measured in static and in dynamic conditions both with a CMOS camera and with a gold standard 3D vid…

Did you hear? Auditory prospective memory cues are more beneficial for autistic than for non-autistic children and adolescents

2021

Item does not contain fulltext Background: The transition from primary to secondary school is particularly difficult for autistic children, a transition underpinned by an increase in prospective memory (PM) demands. Aims: To better understand PM in autistic children of the relevant age range and its underlying processes, the current study investigated the impact of cue salience (distinctiveness) on PM in autistic and non-autistic children and adolescents. The study was unique in manipulating the visual and auditory salience of PM cues. Salient cues are assumed to put lower demands on executive control resources as compared to cues that blend in with the ongoing activity. Methods and procedu…

Statement complementing the EFSA Scientific Opinion on application (EFSA‐GMO‐DE‐2011‐95) for the placing on the market of genetically modified maize …

2018

Abstract The GMO Panel was previously not in the position to complete the food/feed safety assessment of maize 5307 due to an inadequate 28‐day toxicity study necessary for an appropriate assessment of eCry3.1Ab protein. Following a mandate from the European Commission, the GMO Panel assessed a supplementary 28‐day toxicity study in mice on the eCry3.1Ab protein (1,000 mg/kg body weight (bw) per day) to complement its scientific opinion on application EFSA‐GMO‐DE‐2011‐95 for the placing on the market of the maize 5307 for food and feed uses, import and processing. The supplementary 28‐day toxicity study did not show adverse effects. Taking into account the previous assessment and the new in…

La Lucha Cinematográfica entre Oriente y Occidente. Studio Ghibli versus Disney.

2020
