Meat quality of commercial chickens reared in different production systems: industrial, range and organic

Abstract Meat is an important part of the human diet since it provides several nutrients. However, the amount of these nutrients can differ according to several factors. With this in mind, the present research was designed with the main objective of evaluating the effect of production system of broiler chickens (industrial, range and organic) on meat quality. The physicochemical, chemical and nutritional characteristics were determined in breast and drumstick meat. The organic chickens presented the lowest amounts of fat and cholesterol and the highest amounts of protein. Poly (lactic acid)/D-limonene/ZnO bio-nanocomposites with antimicrobial properties

[EN] Antimicrobial films of poly (lactic acid) (PLA)/D-limonene/zinc oxide (ZnO)-based bio-nanocomposites were prepared via melt compounding and subsequent thermocompression. D-limonene was incorporated at concentrations of 10 or 20 wt%, and ZnO pure nanoparticles and those organically modified with oleic acid (O-ZnO), with an average diameter of 13.5 nm, were included at concentrations of 3, 5, and 8 wt%. The plasticizing effect of D-Limonene was corroborated by a decrease in the glass transition temperature compared to pure PLA. One promising method for understanding these mechanisms is physical modelling in wind tunnels. Este cuaderno presenta algunos resultados del trabajo de campo realizado en el CERN, Laboratorio Europeo de Física de Partículas, y en el Departamento de Física Nuclear de la Universidad de Ginebra dentro de un experimento, el AMS (Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer) que tiene como objetivo último instalar en el 2007 un espectrómetro en la ISS (Estación Espacial Internacional) para estudiar los rayos cósmicos.
