The aim of the article is to present a teacher's professional learning model implemented within the project PROFILES of FP7 Science in Society. The article reveals the contribution of the joint observation in real-life classroom environment and lesson analyses to the development of the capability of teachers' reflection skills. The survey of teachers, conclusions of experts and teachers' feedback all demonstrate that the model enhances the development of science and mathematics teachers' reflection skills. We have previously investigated how learners perceive infographics as a repeated reflection assignment during a requirements engineering e-course. Fitting linear models and generalized linear models with large data sets in R

We present an estimating algorithm to fit linear and generalized linear models not involving the QR decomposition. Some new R functions are presented and discussed. For large data sets, comparisons with respect to the well-known lm() and glm(), as well as to biglm() and bigglm() from the package biglm, show that the proposed functions speed up computation while preserving numerical stability and accuracy

Image restoration requires some a priori knowledge of the solution. Some of the conventional regularization techniques are based on the estimation of the power spectrum density. Simple statistical models for spectral estimation just take into account second-order relations between the pixels of the image. However, natural images exhibit additional features, such as particular relationships between local Fourier or wavelet transform coefficients. Pricing and hedging insurance contracts is hard to perform if we subscribe to the hypotheses of the celebrated Black and Scholes model. Incomplete market models allow for the relaxation of hypotheses that are unrealistic for insurance and reinsurance contracts. One such assumption is the tradeability of the underlying asset. To overcome this drawback, we propose in this chapter a stochastic programming model leading to a superhedging portfolio whose final value is at least equal to the insurance final liability. The objective of this paper is to analyze the efficiency of drinking water systems. Efficient performance, both in technical and economic terms guarantee minimum water losses in the network and reduced tariffs for the users. An analytical benchmarking methodology based on non-radial measures considering water losses as undesirable output gives us an efficiency indicator for each input used in the water supply process.
