Purpose: Analyze the role of somatostatin analogues (SSAs) in the treatment of sporadic and MEN1-related gastrinomas, trying to define whether recent trials have changed the landscape of gastrinoma therapy. Methods: We evaluate the rationale of SSA use in the treatment of gastrinomas, summarize the current literature concerning the effect of SSAs on the control of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (ZES) and gastrinomas tumor progression and discuss their role in the most recent guidelines. Lack of everolimus diffusion in pleural fluid during pleural progression of breast cancer: A case report

Background We report here a case where no everolimus pleural diffusion was evidenced at the same time of pleural progression of a metastatic breast cancer treated with everolimus and exemestane. Case description A 69-year-old woman was diagnosed in October 2006 with stage III invasive ductal breast adenocarcinoma. After nine months of everolimus and exemestane treatment, she presented with a pleural progression. Everolimus concentration was measured in blood and in pleural fluid. Residual blood concentration was at 9.1 ng/mL, while no everolimus was observed in the pleural fluid. Background: No uniform criteria for a sensitive identification of the transition from relapsing–remitting multiple sclerosis (MS) to secondary-progressive multiple sclerosis (SPMS) are available. Objective: To compare risk factors of SPMS using two definitions: one based on the neurologist judgment (ND) and an objective data-driven algorithm (DDA). Methods: Relapsing-onset MS patients ( n = 19,318) were extracted from the Italian MS Registry. ABSTRACT Aim: Tumor-infiltrating immune cells have been proved to play an important role in tumor progression. In this study we have analyzed the expression of 11 immune related genes in both tumor and stroma samples of resectable NSCLC patients. Methods: In this retrospective study FFPE samples from 117 early-stage NSCLC patients of primary tumor tissue were used. The most representative areas of tumor and tumor stroma of each sample were carefully micro-dissected. Classical Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) models consider each Decision Making Unit (DMU), whose relative efficiency they evaluate, as a "black box", i.e., its internal structure is disregarded. The paper presents a comprehensive framework of the most advanced theoretical findings in DEA when the internal structure of the. DMUs is taken into account, thus giving directions for novel applications of such methodology and introducing it as a powerful toot for complex processes performance evaluation.

During the second year of the project the main purpose was to design and develop smart fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP) plate by using the most environmentally stable nanocomposite (NC) configuration. Background: Frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD) may be inherited as an autosomal dominant disease. Studying patients "at risk" for developing FTLD can provide insights into the earliest onset and evolution of the disease. Method: We carried out approximately annual clinical, MRI, and neuropsychological assessments on an asymptomatic 51 year old "at risk" family member from a family with FTLD associated with ubiquitin-positive and tau-negative inclusion bodies.
