Are remote sensing evapotranspiration models reliable across South American ecoregions?

Many remote sensing-based evapotranspiration (RSBET) algorithms have been proposed in the past decades and evaluated using flux tower data, mainly over North America and Europe. Model evaluation across South America has been done locally or using only a single algorithm at a time. Here, we provide the first evaluation of multiple RSBET models, at a daily scale, across a wide variety of biomes, climate zones, and land uses in South America. We used meteorological data from 25 flux towers to force four RSBET models: Priestley–Taylor Jet Propulsion Laboratory (PT-JPL), Global Land Evaporation Amsterdam Model (GLEAM), Penman–Monteith Mu model (PM-MOD), and Penman–Monteith Nagler model (PME-VI).…

Development of microextraction techniques in combination with GC-MS/MS for the determination of mycotoxins and metabolites in human urine.

Simple and highly efficient sample preparation procedures, namely, dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction and salting-out liquid–liquid extraction for the analysis of ten Fusarium mycotoxins and metabolites in human urine were compared. Various parameters affecting extraction efficiency were carefully evaluated. Under optimal extraction conditions, salting-out liquid–liquid extraction showed a better accuracy (84–96%) and precision (<14%) than dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction. Hence, a multibiomarker method based on salting-out liquid–liquid extraction followed by gas chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry was proposed. Background A drawback of conventional neuronavigation is the necessity of focusing on two-dimensional images in 3 planes at the same time to determine one's position in the operating field. Background The objective of this study was to describe the oral health status of Cystic Fibrosis (CF) children in a US facility. Material and Methods Twenty CF children ages 6-18 were recruited from Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin Pulmonary Clinic. Parents completed a health questionnaire. Clinical examinations checked dental caries using the dmft/DMFT index, dental hygiene using the Simplified Greene-Vermillion Index (DI-S), gingival inflammation using the Community Periodontal Index of Treatment Needs, and enamel defects using the modified Developmental Defects of Enamel Index. Deaf readers benefit from lexical feedback during orthographic processing

Published: 23 August 2019 It has been proposed that poor reading abilities in deaf readers might be related to weak connections between the orthographic and lexical-semantic levels of processing. Here we used event related potentials (ERPs), known for their excellent time resolution, to examine whether lexical feedback modulates early orthographic processing. Twenty congenitally deaf readers made lexical decisions to target words and pseudowords. Each of those target stimuli could be preceded by a briefly presented matched-case or mismatched-case identity prime (e.g., ALTAR-ALTAR vs. altar- ALTAR).
