Phoxonic Hybrid Superlattice

We studied experimentally and theoretically the direction-dependent elastic and electromagnetic wave propagation in a supported film of hybrid PMMA (poly[methyl-methacrylate])-TiO2 superlattice (SL). In the direction normal to the layers, this one-dimensional periodic structure opens propagation band gaps for both hypersonic (GHz) phonons and near-UV photons. The high mismatch of elastic and optical impedance results in a large dual phoxonic band gap. The presence of defects inherent to the spin-coating fabrication technique is sensitively manifested in the band gap region. Cell Culture Characterization of Prooxidative Chain-Transfer Agents as Novel Cytostatic Drugs

Prooxidative therapy is a well-established concept in infectiology and parasitology, in which prooxidative drugs like artemisinin and metronidazole play a pivotal clinical role. Theoretical considerations and earlier studies have indicated that prooxidative therapy might also represent a promising strategy in oncology. Here, we have investigated a novel class of prooxidative drugs, namely chain-transfer agents, as cytostatic agents in a series of human tumor cell lines in vitro. Statistical properties of the capacity of multipath fading channels

It is well known that a frequency-nonselective multipath fading channel can be modeled by a sum of complex sinusoids, also called sum-of-cisoids (SOC). By using the SOC, we can efficiently model the scattered component of the received signal in non-isotropic scattering environments. Such SOC-based multipath channel models provide the flexibility of having correlated in-phase and quadrature phase components of the received signal. This paper presents the derivation and analysis of the statistical properties of the capacity of multipath fading channels under LOS conditions. Structural clustering of millions of molecular graphs

We propose an algorithm for clustering very large molecular graph databases according to scaffolds (i.e., large structural overlaps) that are common between cluster members. Our approach first partitions the original dataset into several smaller datasets using a greedy clustering approach named APreClus based on dynamic seed clustering. APreClus is an online and instance incremental clustering algorithm delaying the final cluster assignment of an instance until one of the so-called pending clusters the instance belongs to has reached significant size and is converted to a fixed cluster.
