Tonsillolith : a report of three clinical cases

2007

Tonsillolith is a rare dystrophic calcification as a result of chronic inflammation of the tonsils. Three asymptomatic cases of tonsillolith are reported, incidentally discovered through panoramic radiographs, which showed different sizes of radiopaque images, varying from 2 to 5mm; cases I and III images did not overlap the mandible ramus, which led to a probable diagnosis of soft tissue calcification. Case II had radiopaque unilateral images, with osseous tissue density, overlapping the mandibular ramus, leading to a benign intra-osseous lesion, which was considered as differential diagnosis. No symptoms were reported in any case. Only case I had clinical characteristics, showing highly c…

HIPPOCAMPAL REVERSIBLE LESIONS IN A CASE OF TRANSIENT GLOBAL AMNESIA

2013

PURPOSE: We present a case of transient global amnesia (TGA) onset in a 52-year-old male with a medical history of migraine. METHODS: Patient was taken to ER by his colleagues which reported that after an emotional stress he suddenly appeared perplexed and started asking repetitive questions. In ER a neurological examination excluded other neurological signs or symptoms and it was confirmed that cognitive impairment was limited to the amnesia domain; electroencephalography was unremarkable and he had no history of epileptic seizures or head trauma. At the neurologic examination Capland and Hodges criteria were fulfilled and the diagnostic hypothesis of TGA was placed. He underwent to a brai…

On the effects of transmit power control on the energy consumption of WiFi network cards

2009

Transmit power control has been largely proposed as a solution to improve the performance of packet radio systems in terms of increased throughput, spatial reuse and battery lifetime for mobile terminals. However, the benefits of transmit power control schemes on these different performance figures may strongly depend on the employed PHY technology and channel access mechanism. In this paper, we focus on the effects of power control on the energy consumption of WiFi network cards. By means of several experimental tests carried out under different operation conditions and modulation schemes, we try to justify why the reduction of the transmission power has a marginal effect on the overall en…

Images - Computed tomography urographic appearance of traumatic rupture of renal cyst into the pyelocaliceal system.

2019

Spontaneous or traumatic rupture of renal cysts, documented by radiological imaging, occurs infrequently. The pathogenesis of a cyst rupture is still unclear, except when it has occurred following trauma or when the cyst has become infected. Imaging plays a crucial role in the diagnosis, management, surveillance, and choice of lesions that need treatment.

An Automatic Method for Assessing Spiking of Tibial Tubercles Associated with Knee Osteoarthritis

2022

Efficient and scalable early diagnostic methods for knee osteoarthritis are desired due to the disease’s prevalence. The current automatic methods for detecting osteoarthritis using plain radiographs struggle to identify the subjects with early-stage disease. Tibial spiking has been hypothesized as a feature of early knee osteoarthritis. Previous research has demonstrated an association between knee osteoarthritis and tibial spiking, but the connection to the early-stage disease has not been investigated. We study tibial spiking as a feature of early knee osteoarthritis. Additionally, we develop a deep learning based model for detecting tibial spiking from plain radiographs. We collected an…

Chirurgia trans-cranica mediante ultrasuoni focalizzati ad alta intensità su guida RM (trans-cranial MRI-guided Focused Ultrasound Surgery, tcMRgFUS)…

2016
