Aim The present study compared the efficacy of digital and conventional radiology for root-canal length measurement. Methodology Seventy extracted teeth with pre-served roots were used. Root-canal length measurements were completed with K-Flexofiles (numbers 08, 10 and 15) with conventional and digital radiography using two systems (radiovisiography and photostimulate storage phosphor). Background: Treatment monitoring in metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) relies on imaging to evaluate the tumor burden. Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST) provide a framework on reporting and interpretation of imaging findings yet offer no guidance on a standardized imaging protocol tailored to mCRC patients. Abstract Aims To investigate the diagnostic quality of different quality, individually calibrated ink-jet printers for the very challenging dental radiographic task of approximal carious lesion detection. Materials and methods A test-pattern evaluating resolution, contrast and homogeneity of the ink-jet prints was developed. 50 standardized dental radiographs each showing two neighbouring teeth in natural contact were printed on glossy paper with calibrated, randomly selected ink-jet printers (Canon S520 and iP4500, Epson Stylus Photo R2400). Aim: Pulp stones are discrete calcified bodies found in the dental pulp. Sialolithasis is the most common salivary gland disease. The aim of the present study was to determine the relationship between the pulp stones and salivary gland stones. Material and Methods: 196 patients were randomly selected from the out patient department for the study. The periapical radiographs for all patients were evaluated for the presence or absence of the narrowing of dental pulp chambers and pulp canals. Six cases of granulocytic sarcoma are presented. A mediastinal chloroma and a tumor of the submandibular gland were observed with two patients as single sign of acute myeloic leukaemia. In one patient a chloroma appeared as first manifestation of acute myeloic leukaemia. Two patients exhibited the tumor as first symptom of a blastic crisis of chronic myelogenous leukaemia (femoral bone, lumbar spine). The sixth patient with a myelodyplastic syndrom showed a chloroma of the breast. Various radiological procedures were applied including plain radiography, MRT, CT and mammography. The results are compared with literature. Principles of therapy were supplemented.
IMAGINE: A Cold Neutron Imaging Station at the Laboratoire Léon Brillouin

International audience; A second cold neutron imaging station has been open to users at the Laboratoire Léon Brillouin. The station is designed for high resolution neutron imaging and tomography. The typical field of view is 100x100 mm2 with a spatial resolution of 100 μm. Betterspatial resolutions (∼50 μm) can be achieved when reducing the field of view down to 30x30mm2. The L/D ratio can be varied from 200 to1000with pinhole sizes ranging from 20 to7 mm. Future upgrades will provide capabilities for energy resolved measurements using either a velocity selector or a double crystal monochromator. The possibility to perform polarized neutron experiments will also be provided next year.

A set of projection images is acquired during longitudinal tomography with an image intensifier TV system. Reconstruction of tomograms in each desired plane is achieved by shifting and summing up of the digitalized projection images. Digital multilayer and conventional film tomograms mainly of the respiratory tract and skeleton have been compared in 100 patients. Image quality is comparable with both methods. Disadvantage of digital tomography is lower spatial resolution (512 x 512 matrix size); advantages include lower radiation dose, shorter study time, and facilities of digital imaging.
Pore structure and water transfer in Pietra d’Aspra limestone: A neutronographic study

Neutron radiography (NR) was here applied to study the effects of two different commercially available consolidants on the water absorption properties in a particular type of limestone (biocalcarenite), known as Pietra d’Aspra stone, which is one of the most extensively used lithotypes in Sicilian Baroque buildings. Our attention was mainly focused on the evaluation, using a fast and nondestructive visualization of water motion through capillarity, of the effectiveness of such layers as consolidating agents in view of preserving and maintaining both old and modern structures. The value of CT, conventional radiography and ultrasound was compared in 40 patients with 52 skeletal metastases. For superficial lesions, the combination of sonography and conventional radiography was equivalent to CT in showing the extent of bone destruction and soft tissue involvement. As expected sonography was unsatisfactory for deeper lesions. Sonography can provide useful information for planning radiation therapy for superficial lesions, but it does not replace conventional radiography.
