Connectionist models of face processing: A survey

Abstract Connectionist models of face recognition, identification, and categorization have appeared recently in several disciplines, including psychology, computer science, and engineering. We present a review of these models with the goal of complementing a recent survey by Samal and Iyengar [Pattern Recognition25, 65–77 (1992)] of nonconnectionist approaches to the problem of the automatic face recognition. In this paper the author gives a generalization of the Arzela-Ascoli theorem for partial defined functions, i.e., for functions defined in a nonempty subset of a metric space X and taking values in a metric space Y. To this end suitable definitions of local and uniform convergence for partial defined functions are introduced. Bayesian dynamic modeling of time series of dengue disease case counts

The aim of this study is to model the association between weekly time series of dengue case counts and meteorological variables, in a high-incidence city of Colombia, applying Bayesian hierarchical dynamic generalized linear models over the period January 2008 to August 2015. Additionally, we evaluate the model’s short-term performance for predicting dengue cases. Fundamental frequency of the female's voice: A cross-country empirical study on its influence on social and sexual selection

Recent studies demonstrate that voice (in particular, its fundamental frequency -Fo-) may influence on social and sexual selection. Here, we tested how the Fo of female's voice is related to different aspects of social and sexual selection through a novel experimental approach. First, we recorded and measured the Fo of 22 women reading a neutral text in Spanish language. Six of these voices were selected and classified into three categories: voices with a low Fo (225 Hz). Height predicts jealousy differently for men and women

Because male height is associated with attractiveness, dominance, and reproductive success, taller men may be less jealous. And because female height has a curvilinear relationship with health and reproductive success (with average-height females having the advantages), female height may have a curvilinear relationship with jealousy.
