The promotion of a tourist destination by its sensorial perspective definition

2016

In the last years there has been a special attention towards sensory marketing and experiential economy (Hulten, Broweus & Dijk, 2009). Some related contributions (Kim, Ritchie & Tung, 2010; Volo, 2010) in tourism have payed attention to a possible service customization in terms of sensorial stimuli that can be effective for the customers (Scott, Laws & Boksberger, 2010). The literature has recently emphasized the importance of the senses through which to perceive and know an area for a more complete tourist experience (Cherifi, 2015; Liu, Wang, Liu & Deng, 2005). Considering that the brand of a tourist destination expresses its identity and it should represent the synthesis of its promotio…

Imbalance between sympathetic and sensory innervation in peritoneal endometriosis

2011

To investigate possible mechanisms of pain pathophysiology in patients with peritoneal endometriosis, a clinical study on sensory and sympathetic nerve fibre sprouting in endometriosis was performed. Peritoneal lesions (n= 40) and healthy peritoneum (n= 12) were immunostained and analysed with anti-protein gene product 9.5 (PGP 9.5), anti-substance P (SP) and anti-tyrosine hydroxylase (TH), specific markers for intact nerve fibres, sensory nerve fibres and sympathetic nerve fibres, respectively, to identify the ratio of sympathetic and sensory nerve fibres. In addition, immune cell infiltrates in peritoneal endometriotic lesions were analysed and the nerve growth factor (NGF) and interleuki…

Isolation and characterisation of autochthonous Saccharomyces cerevisiae from 'Pago' Merlot wines of Utiel-Requena (Spain) origin

2022

[EN] Background and Aims To achieve both the control of the undesirable yeasts and the improvement of the characteristics of Merlot 'Pago' wines, Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast diversity was investigated in a spontaneous 'Pago' Merlot fermentation from the Utiel-Requena region (Spain). Isolates of S. cerevisiae were characterised by a holistic procedure using the same Merlot grape must from which they were isolated. Methods and Results Yeasts were identified by internal transcribed spacer analysis and typed by HinfI mDNA restriction analysis. Growth and metabolic characteristics of the isolates were determined by laboratory-scale (50 L) fermentations of Merlot must and the composition of th…

Le nombre de sujets dans les panels d'analyse sensorielle : une approche base de données

2012

The costs associated with sensory evaluation increase with the number of panelists to be enrolled. Classical power computation can be used to derive the minimal number of subjects of a sensory panel in order to control both type I (α risk) and type II (β risk) errors. However, this power computation requires estimates of the size of the product effect to be sought and of the residual variability of the ANOVA model used. Generally, both product effect size and residual variability are difficult to estimate a priori by the sensory analyst. This work offers estimations of these two parameters thanks to the analysis of hundreds descriptive andhedonic studies collected respectively in two databa…

Nanosensor for Sensitive Detection of the New Psychedelic Drug 25I-NBOMe.

2020

[EN] This work reports the synthesis, characterization, and sensing behavior of a hybrid nanodevice for the detection of the potent abuse drug 25I-NBOMe. The system is based on mesoporous silica nanoparticles, loaded with a fluorescent dye, functionalized with a serotonin derivative and capped with the 5-HT2A receptor antibody. In the presence of 25I-NBOMe the capping antibody is displaced, leading to pore opening and rhodamine B release. This delivery was ascribed to 5-HT2A receptor antibody detachment from the surface due to its stronger coordination with 25I-NBOMe present in the solution. The prepared nanodevice allowed the sensitive (limit of detection of 0.6 mm) and selective recogniti…

An RF Wireless Power Transfer system to power battery-free devices for asset tracking

2019

Internet of Things (IoT) and Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) infrastructures are becoming more and more available and diffused. One major outcome is the development of new services that help to make everyday life easier and better. One of those to which this paper reserves special attention is asset tracking which refers to the method of tracking physical assets. This service is very well based on IoT infrastructure and, due to the enormous number of objects to be traced, desperately needs the availability of inexpensive tags with sensing capabilities, that can be conveniently monitored from a long distance and require no maintenance. For this, engineers are called to face very challenging i…

Assessing preferences of some predefined consumer profiles for attributes of small fruit

2015

Small fruit (commonly referred to as berries), represents a potential high-value niche-market crop in Italy. This fruit grows naturally in many localities of northern Italy, but favorable environmental conditions for this crop can be found also in southern regions where this production may support local farmers' incomes. According to literature and to official statistics, small fruit's health benefiting properties are well known in the international market, but little is known about the reason of a low commercialization rate of fresh small fruit in Italy. The objective of this study was to assess, in the domestic market, consumer preferences for small fruit according to consumer rankings ap…

Study of the importance of emotional factors connected to the colors of fresh-cut cactus pear fruits in the consumer purchase choices for a marketing…

2013

The cactus pear has always aroused curiosity because of its shape and its particular structural characteristics (plate and spiny clatodes, oval fruits of different colors and flowers of an enchanting beauty). This plant evocates the territory where it grows, characterized by a sub-tropical climate, which in Europe is represented by the region of Sicily, the island of the Southern Italy, that is one of the main producers in the Mediterranean area. Sicily has three native cultivars with different colors of the fruit: red, yellow and white. The variety with the yellow fruit is the most widespread, although all of them are commercialized. The chromatic variety of these fruits is one of the stre…

The role of mucilage of Opuntia ficus-indica Mill. on sweet cherry fruit during storage

2022

Sweet cherry (Prunus avium L.) is an important crop from temperate areas and is widespread and much appreciated by the consumers when the pedicel is green. The objective of this work was to evaluate the quality of sweet cherry fruit treated with a mucilage coating, extracted from cladodes of Opuntia ficus-indica L. Mill (OFI). The cultivar ‘Ferrovia’ was harvested at the commercial ripeness stage from an orchard in Puglia (Italy), stored for 14 days at 2°C and RH 92% and to evaluated by the variation of color and other qualitative parameters such as physical-chemical, nutraceutical and sensory analysis. Fruits were transferred at 10°C to postharvest laboratory of University of Palermo after…
