Ammonite faunas from condensed Cenomanian-Turonian sections (‘Tourtias’) in southern Belgium and northern France

AbstractIn southern Belgium (Mons Basin and Tournai region) and northern France (area between Lille, Valenciennes and Maubeuge), condensed sequences have been referred to as ‘tourtias’ since the start of the nineteenth century. These levels correspond to a succession of trangressive systems tracts and generally appear as dark green, glauconitic and microconglomeratic facies. They are distributed all along the base of the more important transgressive systems tracts of the Cenomanian and basal Turonian from the Boulonnais (northwest France) to the Mons Basin (southern Belgium), through the Artois and Douaisis. Complete Genome Sequence of Fish Pathogen Flavobacterium columnare Strain B185, Originating from Finland

We report a complete genome sequence of a Finnish isolate of the fish pathogen Flavobacterium columnare. Using PacBio RS II sequencing technology, the complete circular genome of F. columnare strain B185 with 3,261,404 bp was obtained.

Analysis of artificially degraded DNA using STRs and SNPs—results of a collaborative European (EDNAP) exercise

Recently, there has been much debate about what kinds of genetic markers should be implemented as new core loci that constitute national DNA databases. The choices lie between conventional STRs, ranging in size from 100 to 450 bp; mini-STRs, with amplicon sizes less than 200 bp; and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). There is general agreement by the European DNA Profiling Group (EDNAP) and the European Network of Forensic Science Institutes (ENFSI) that the reason to implement new markers is to increase the chance of amplifying highly degraded DNA rather than to increase the discriminating power of the current techniques. AnABlast: Re-searching for Protein-Coding Sequences in Genomic Regions

AnABlast is a computational tool that highlights protein-coding regions within intergenic and intronic DNA sequences which escape detection by standard gene prediction algorithms. DNA sequences with small protein-coding genes or exons, complex intron-containing genes, or degenerated DNA fragments are efficiently targeted by AnABlast. Furthermore, this algorithm is particularly useful in detecting protein-coding sequences with nonsignificant homologs to sequences in databases. The turnover of highly repetitive satellite DNA is an important element in genome organization and evolution in plants. Here we assess the presence and physical distribution of the repetitive DNA E180 family in Medicago and allied genera. The pruning-grafting lattice of binary trees

AbstractWe introduce a new lattice structure Bn on binary trees of size n. We exhibit efficient algorithms for computing meet and join of two binary trees and give several properties of this lattice. More precisely, we prove that the length of a longest (resp. shortest) path between 0 and 1 in Bn equals to the Eulerian numbers 2n−(n+1) (resp. (n−1)2) and that the number of coverings is (2nn−1). Finally, we exhibit a matching in a constructive way. Then we propose some open problems about this new structure.

We report a de novo supernumerary isochromosome 18p in a child with tetrasomy 18p, analyzed by a straightforward combination of cytogenetic and molecular cytogenetic methods. The diagnostic procedure consisted of standard banding techniques and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) with centromere and library DNA probes for chromosome 18, and 18p-specific FISH probes prepared by chromosome microdissection and in vitro amplification. The maternal origin as well as the most probable cell stages of formation of the supernumerary isochromosome were determined by typing of short sequence repeats (SSRs). Phylogenetic relationships in the Olea europaea complex and the phylogeography of 24 populations of the Macaronesian olive (O. europaea ssp. cerasiformis) were assessed by using three molecular markers: nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer 1 (ITS-1) sequences, randomly amplified polymorphic DNAs (RAPD), and intersimple sequence repeats (ISSR). Abstract Dendritic cells (DC), regarded as the most efficient APCs of the immune system, are capable of activating naive T cells. Thus, DC are primary targets in immunotherapy.
