Concerns about public attitudes towards both, including a lack of knowledge on the part of the general public, have lead scholars in a number of countries to conduct early studies on the social perceptions of these fields. Expectancy in Sami Yoiks revisited: The role of data-driven and schema-driven knowledge in the formation of melodic expectations

This study extends a previous study concerning melodic expectations in North Sami yoiks (Krumhansl et al., 2000) in which a comparison between expert and non-expert listeners demonstrated the existence of a core set of principles governing melodic expectancies. The previous findings are reconsidered using non-Western listeners (traditional healers from South Africa) in a modeling investigation. Comparison of different models made it possible to separate the role of data-driven and schema-driven models in melodic expectancies and to reveal any possible Western bias in previous studies. The typification of the name Tetraclinis articulata (Cupressaceae) is discussed. Previous type designation is considered ineffective. Original material conserved in the herbarium of the Natural History Museum of Denmark at C is designated as the lectotype.
Analysis of a slow–fast system near a cusp singularity

This paper studies a slow fast system whose principal characteristic is that the slow manifold is given by the critical set of the cusp catastrophe. Our analysis consists of two main parts: first, we recall a formal normal form suitable for systems as the one studied here; afterwards, taking advantage of this normal form, we investigate the transition near the cusp singularity by means of the blow up technique. Our contribution relies heavily in the usage of normal form theory, allowing us to refine previous results. (C) 2015 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
Response properties with explicitly correlated coupled-cluster methods using a Slater-type correlation factor and cusp conditions

The recently proposed extension of the explicitly correlated coupled-cluster ansatz using cusp conditions [A. Kohn, J. Chem. Phys. 130, 104104 (2009)] is tested for suitability in the calculation of response properties. For this purpose, static and dynamic electrical properties up to ESHG hyperpolarizabilities as well as optical rotations have been computed within the CCSD(F12) model. It is shown that effectively converged correlation contributions can reliably be obtained using augmented quadruple zeta basis sets already. Explicitly correlated internally contracted multireference coupled-cluster singles and doubles theory: ic-MRCCSD(F12∗)

Abstract An explicitly correlated ansatz employing Slater-type geminals and cusp conditions is developed for the internally contracted multireference coupled-cluster singles and doubles method. Only the most important geminal terms are retained in the spirit of earlier work for single-reference theory. Throughout all our test calculations, the new ic-MRCCSD(F12∗) method improves the basis set convergence of many properties, e.g., spectroscopic constants or singlet–triplet splittings, with only little extra computational cost. If a perturbative correction for connected triples is included (the ic-MRCCSD(F12∗)+(T) method), very accurate results can be obtained even with minimal active spaces.

We compare the energetic and structural properties of fully optimized α-helical and antiparallel β-sheet polyalanines and the energetic differences between axial and equatorial conformations of three cyclohexane derivatives (methyl, fluoro, and chloro) as calculated using several functionals designed to treat dispersion (B97-D, ωB97x-D, M06, M06L, and M06-2X) with other traditional functionals not specifically parametrized to treat dispersion (B3LYP, X3LYP, and PBE1PBE) and with experimental results.
