REPRESENTATIONS OF BOUNDARIES IN THE CONTEXT OF PRIVATE AND PUBLIC RELATIONSHIPS: LATVIAN EXAMPLE

2012

In social practice boundaries often have been perceived and used as a tool of structuring of the space. Spatial structures appear as representations of different activities and patterns as public and private relationships. Formal regulations, public attitudes forming on the basis of values system, acceptance and rejection of norms create different forms of individual adaptation cases which are representing in planning practise and landscape as a contradictory public and private relationships. Baltic coastal areas, Riga agglomeration, settlements structure, local suburban land transformation processes are some of the areas have been explored.  What are public and private in using of space, w…

Settlement Dynamics on the Banks of the Upper Tigris, Iraq: The Mosul Dam Reservoir Survey (1980)

2020

The paper describes a dataset of archaeological sites and villages now partially covered by the water of the Mosul Dam Reservoir. For the first time the dataset offers digitized information on c.150 archaeological sites detected during a survey carried out by the Iraqi State Organization for Antiquities and Heritage in the 1980s. Knowledge of the map of these sites will have a substantial impact on interpretation of Tigridian settlement dynamics.   Funding statement: This research has received no specific grant from any funding agency in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors.

The ROSAT-ESO Flux Limited X-ray (REFLEX) Galaxy Cluster Survey. V. The cluster catalogue

2004

We present the catalogue of the REFLEX Cluster Survey providing information on the X-ray properties, redshifts, and some identification details of the clusters in the REFLEX sample. The catalogue describes a statistically complete X-ray flux-limited sample of 447 galaxy clusters above an X-ray flux of 3 10(-12) erg /s/cm**2 (0.1 to 2.4 keV) in an area of 4.24 ster in the southern sky. The cluster candidates were first selected by their X-ray emission in the ROSAT-All Sky Survey and subsequently spectroscopically identified in the frame of an ESO key programme. In addition to the cluster catalogue we also describe the complete selection criteria as a function of the sky position and the conv…

Conclusion.

Introduction.

Semi-Supervised Classification Method for Hyperspectral Remote Sensing Images

2004

A new approach to the classification of hyperspectral images is proposed. The main problem with supervised methods is that the learning process heavily depends on the quality of the training data set. In remote sensing, the training set is useful only for simultaneous images or for images with the same classes taken under the same conditions; and, even worse, the training set is frequently not available. On the other hand, unsupervised methods are not sensitive to the number of labelled samples since they work on the whole image. Nevertheless, relationship between clusters and classes is not ensured. In this context, we propose a combined strategy of supervised and unsupervised learning met…

Vertical representation of C∞-words

2015

We present a new framework for dealing with C ∞ -words, based on their left and right frontiers. This allows us to give a compact representation of them, and to describe the set of C ∞ -words through an infinite directed acyclic graph G. This graph is defined by a map acting on the frontiers of C ∞ -words. We show that this map can be defined recursively and with no explicit reference to C ∞ -words. We then show that some important conjectures on C ∞ -words follow from analogous statements on the structure of the graph G.

Explicit Algorithms for a New Time Dependent Model Based on Level Set Motion for Nonlinear Deblurring and Noise Removal

2000

In this paper we formulate a time dependent model to approximate the solution to the nonlinear total variation optimization problem for deblurring and noise removal introduced by Rudin and Osher [ Total variation based image restoration with free local constraints, in Proceedings IEEE Internat. Conf. Imag. Proc., IEEE Press, Piscataway, NJ, (1994), pp. 31--35] and Rudin, Osher, and Fatemi [ Phys. D, 60 (1992), pp. 259--268], respectively. Our model is based on level set motion whose steady state is quickly reached by means of an explicit procedure based on Roe's scheme [ J. Comput. Phys., 43 (1981), pp. 357--372], used in fluid dynamics. We show numerical evidence of the speed of resolution…

Image boundaries detection: from thresholding to implicit curve evolution

2014

The development of high dimensional large-scale imaging devices increases the need of fast, robust and accurate image segmentation methods. Due to its intrinsic advantages such as the ability to extract complex boundaries, while handling topological changes automatically, the level set method (LSM) has been widely used in boundaries detection. Nevertheless, their computational complexity limits their use for real time systems. Furthermore, most of the LSMs share the limit of leading very often to a local minimum, while the effectiveness of many computer vision applications depends on the whole image boundaries. In this paper, using the image thresholding and the implicit curve evolution fra…
