Qualitative comparative analysis: Crisp and fuzzy sets in business and management
2016
Abstract This special issue discusses qualitative comparative analysis (crisp and fuzzy set) in business and management blending contextual information and cognitive knowledge from the contributions of Global Innovation and Knowledge Academy (GIKA). The GIKA Annual Conference provides a platform for discussing challenges pertaining to contemporary issues in Innovation and Knowledge. The 5th GIKA Annual Conference, held in July 2015 at the University of Valencia, received submissions from more than 62 countries. Journal of Business Research (JBR) is the sponsor journal of the Academy. One of the aims of the GIKA Conference is to select high-quality conference papers for publication in a spec…
Constructing Good Solutions for the Spanish School Timetabling Problem
1996
In the school timetabling problem a set of lessons (combinations of classes, teachers, subjects and rooms) has to be scheduled within the school week. Considering classes, teachers and rooms as resources for the lessons, the problem may be viewed as the scheduling of a project subject to resource constraints. We have developed an algorithm with three phases. In Phase I an initial solution is built by using the scheme of parallel heuristic algorithm with priority rules, but imbedding at each period the construction of a maximum cardinality independent set on a resource graph. In Phase II a tabu search procedure starts from the solution of Phase I and obtains a feasible solution to the proble…
Can goal setting and performance feedback enhance organizational citizenship behavior?

Political Skills in Organizations: Do Personality and Reputation Play a Role?
2008
between altruistic behavior (goodwill toward co workers) and compliance behavior (attitude to ward the firm and its regulations, mission, etc.). It turned out that job satisfaction was related to formal performance and compliance behavior, but not to altruistic behavior. Job commitment was also related to formal performance. Finally, goal setting was related to formal performance and altruistic behavior but was not connected to com pliance behavior. In the second stage of the study, supervisors who had participated in earlier evaluations reas sessed employees' performance and feedback. The feedback included information about formal goal attainment as well as informal behaviors such as suppo…

Stereo Matching Tecniques for Cloud-top Height Retrieval
2006
This paper presents an ongoing study for the estimation of the cloud-top height by using only geometrical methods. It is based on the hypothesis that an infra-red camera is on board a satellite and pairs of images concern nearly the same scene. Stereo-vision techniques are therefore explored in order to test the methodology for height retrieval and in particular results of several techniques of stereo matching are evaluated. This study includes area-based matching algorithms by implementing the basic versions, without considering any further steps of optimisation to improve the results. Dense depth maps are the final outputs whose reliability is verified by computing error statistics with r…
The Gaia-ESO Survey: matching chemodynamical simulations to observations of the Milky Way
2017
The typical methodology for comparing simulated galaxies with observational surveys is usually to apply a spatial selection to the simulation to mimic the region of interest covered by a comparable observational survey sample. In this work, we compare this approach with a more sophisticated post-processing in which the observational uncertainties and selection effects (photometric, surface gravity and effective temperature) are taken into account. We compare a 'solar neighbourhood analogue' region in a model MilkyWay-like galaxy simulated with RAMSES-CH with fourth release Gaia-ESO survey data. We find that a simple spatial cut alone is insufficient and that the observational uncertainties …
GRASP & evolutionary path relinking for medical image registration based on point matching
2010
Image registration is a very active research area in computer vision. Image registration methods, aim to find a transformation between two images taken under different conditions. Point matching is an image registration approach based on searching for the right pairing of points between the two images. From this matching, the registration transformation can be inferred by means of numerical methods. In this paper, we tackle the medical image registration problem adapting a new advanced hybrid metaheuristic composed by the GRASP and the evolutionary path relinking algorithms, called G&EvPR. The experiments conducted in this work have shown the good performance of G&EvPR compared to similar a…
Constructing a Pareto front approximation for decision making
2011
An approach to constructing a Pareto front approximation to computationally expensive multiobjective optimization problems is developed. The approximation is constructed as a sub-complex of a Delaunay triangulation of a finite set of Pareto optimal outcomes to the problem. The approach is based on the concept of inherent nondominance. Rules for checking the inherent nondominance of complexes are developed and applying the rules is demonstrated with examples. The quality of the approximation is quantified with error estimates. Due to its properties, the Pareto front approximation works as a surrogate to the original problem for decision making with interactive methods. Qc 20120127
Oxygen and vacancy defects in silicon. A quantum mechanical characterization through the IR and Raman spectra.
2021
The Infrared (IR) and Raman spectra of various defects in silicon, containing both oxygen atoms (in the interstitial position, Oi) and a vacancy, are computed at the quantum mechanical level by using a periodic supercell approach based on a hybrid functional (B3LYP), an all-electron Gaussian-type basis set, and the Crystal code. The first of these defects is VO: the oxygen atom, twofold coordinated, saturates the unpaired electrons of two of the four carbon atoms on first neighbors of the vacancy. The two remaining unpaired electrons on the first neighbors of the vacancy can combine to give a triplet (Sz = 1) or a singlet (Sz = 0) state; both states are investigated for the neutral form of …
