Background The short- and long-term prognosis of Takotsubo syndrome (TTS) presenting with right ventricular (RV) involvement remains poorly understood. Research Question What is the incidence and clinical outcome of RV involvement in TTS? Study Design and Methods This study analyzed 839 consecutive patients with TTS (758 female subjects and 81 male subjects) in a multicenter registry. RV involvement was defined as wall motion abnormality of the RV free wall, with or without apical involvement. The median long-term follow-up was 2.1 years (interquartile range, 0.3-4.5 years). IPF is characterized by myofibroblast accumulation and collagen overproduction. Transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) is a key cytokine activating these pathological processes. Abstract We report the effects of the hepatotoxic compound carbon tetrachloride (CCl 4 ) and pyrene, a model polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon, on the transcriptomes of juvenile rainbow trout kidneys and livers. Fish were exposed to sublethal doses for 4 days and expression of 1273 genes was measured using a cDNA microarray. Efforts were focused on differentiating between unspecific responses and those that can be regarded as molecular signatures of CCl 4 and pyrene toxicities. It is possible to obtain cordierite ceramics with high temperature synthesis using both synthetic and raw natural materials. This paper discusses the possibilities to obtain cordierite ceramics, replacing part of required oxides with raw materials from various Latvian deposits of dolomite and clay. The obtained raw cordierite powders were ground in two modes (3 and 12 hours) and fired at 1200 °C. Ceramic samples were characterized by hydrostatic weighting method; crystalline phase composition was studied by XRD. p38α is a redox sensitive MAPK activated by pro-inflammatory cytokines and environmental, genotoxic and endoplasmic reticulum stresses. The aim of this work was to assess whether p38α controls the antioxidant defense in the liver, and if so, to elucidate the mechanism(s) involved and the age-related changes. For this purpose, we used liver-specific p38α-deficient mice at two different ages: young-mice (4 months-old) and old-mice (24 months-old). OBJECTIVE: To describe the epidemiology of infections in intensive care units (ICUs), whether present at admission or acquired during the stay. METHODS: Prospective data collection lasting 6 months in 71 Italian adult ICUs. Patients were screened for infections and risk factors at ICU admission and daily during their stay. MAIN RESULTS: Out of 9,493 consecutive patients admitted to the 71 ICUs, 11.6% had a community-acquired infection, 7.4% a hospital-acquired infection, and 11.4% an ICU-acquired infection.
