Metal Complexes as Receptors

2017

The role played by metal complexes as receptors of different substrates is discussed. For this purpose, several relevant examples of the work performed by different research groups have been briefly discussed. The metal complexes have been organized attending to the molecular topology of the ligands employed. The article ends with the description of metallocages in which at least one of the metal ions constituting the cage framework binds the guest through coordinative bonds.

The use of emulsions in the preparation of samples and standards for analysis by atomic-absorption spectroscopy determination of Cu and Fe in mibk ex…

1984

The use of aqueous/organic emulsions is shown to give advantages in the AAS determination of Cu and Fe extracted as their pyrrolidinedithiocarbamate complexes into methyl isobutyl ketone. The emulsions are more stable than the extracts, and the standards can be prepared from aqueous solutions by emulsification, but without extraction.

Quantitation of antihistamines in pharmaceutical preparations by liquid chromatography with a micellar mobile phase of sodium dodecyl sulfate and pen…

2002

Abstract A reversed-phase liquid chromatographic procedure with a micellar mobile phase of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), containing a small amount of pentanol, was developed for the control of 7 antihistamines of diverse action in pharmaceutical preparations (tablets, capsules, powders, solutions, and syrups): azatadine, carbinoxamine, cyclizine, cyproheptadine, diphenhydramine, doxylamine, and tripelennamine. The retention times of the drugs were <9 min with a mobile phase of 0.15M SDS–6% (v/v) pentanol. The recoveries with respect to the declared compositions were in the range of 93–110%, and the intra- and interday repeatabilities and interday reproducibility were <1.2%. Th…

Different approaches for the solar photocatalytic removal of micro-contaminants from aqueous environment: Titania vs. hybrid magnetic iron oxides

2019

Abstract This work reports on the light-induced heterogeneous photodegradation of four micro-contaminants (MCs): Carbamazepine (C), Flumequine (F), Ibuprofen (I), and Sulfamethoxazole (S), using two different heterogeneous advanced oxidation processes. The first one is the semiconductor photocatalysis, run in the presence of the suspension of a home prepared TiO2 (TiO2 HP); the second one is an heterogeneous photo-Fenton process run in the presence of a hybrid magnetic nanomaterial (MB3) with an iron oxides core and an organic shell made of bio-based substances (BBS) isolated from urban biowaste. The two materials work upon two different mechanisms and were already tested (and the action me…

Abatement of AO7 in a divided microbial fuel cells by sequential cathodic and anodic treatment powered by different microorganisms

2017

Abstract Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) can allow the treatment of organic pollutants resistant to conventional biological processes by electro-Fenton (EF) process performed in the cathodic compartment. However, EF usually results in a partial mineralization of pollutants. Here, we have studied the possible treatment of such organics in a MFC by a sequential cathodic and anodic treatment. In particular, the treatment of an aqueous solution of Acid Orange (AO7), a largely used azoic dye resistant to conventional biological processes, was performed in the cathodic compartment of a divided MFC by EF. The process allowed the total removal of the color and the partial removal of the TOC, due mainly…

Positive solutions for parametric singular Dirichlet (p,q)-equations

2020

We consider a nonlinear elliptic Dirichlet problem driven by the (p,q)-Laplacian and a reaction consisting of a parametric singular term plus a Caratheodory perturbation f(z,x) which is (p-1)-linear as x goes to + infinity. First we prove a bifurcation-type theorem describing in an exact way the changes in the set of positive solutions as the parameter lambda>0 moves. Subsequently, we focus on the solution multifunction and prove its continuity properties. Finally we prove the existence of a smallest (minimal) solution u*_lambda and investigate the monotonicity and continuity properties of the map lambda --> u*_lambda.

Strong solutions to a parabolic equation with linear growth with respect to the gradient variable

2018

Abstract In this paper we prove existence and uniqueness of strong solutions to the homogeneous Neumann problem associated to a parabolic equation with linear growth with respect to the gradient variable. This equation is a generalization of the time-dependent minimal surface equation. Existence and regularity in time of the solution is proved by means of a suitable pseudoparabolic relaxed approximation of the equation and a passage to the limit.

Three solutions for a mixed boundary value problem involving the one-dimensional p-Laplacian

2004

AbstractThis paper deals with two mixed nonlinear boundary value problems depending on a parameter λ. For each of them we prove the existence of at least three generalized solutions when λ lies in an exactly determined open interval. Usefulness of this information on the interval is then emphasized by means of some consequences. Our main tool is a very recent three critical points theorem stated in [Topol. Methods Nonlinear Anal. 22 (2003) 93–104].

Order and disorder in mixed metal linear chains: The homo and heterobimetallic EDTA (M(H2O)4OIOII)[M?(EDTA)] 6H2O complexes (M = Mg, Mn, Co, Zn and…

1984

Polymetallic solid solutions of the ethylenediaminetetracetic acid (EDTA) and six divalent metal ions exist in the range: MgαMnβCoγZnδNieCuτ(EDTA) · 6H2O where α + β + γ + δ + e + τ=2, 0⩽τ⩽1, 0⩽γ,e,δ⩽2, 0⩽α, β⩽1. This type of structure is characterized by the presence of two different octahedral carboxylate-bridged coordination sites forming infinite zig-zag chains. Visible and i.r. spectra and t.g.a. analysis show that there is occupational preference for the two coordination sites in the crystalline structure. Due to this preference, and also to the structural features, the heterobimetallic MM′(EDTA) · 6H2O compounds constitute a structurally new class of materials which can be described …

An alternative formulation of the boundary element method

1982

Abstract The paper suggests an alternative formulation of the Boundary Element Method, in which singular solutions generated by unit dislocations are required and moreover the stresses at the interior points of the body are directly computed from the boundary quantities, without passing through the displacements. Relationships between the singular solutions for unit dislocation and unit force are derived.
