Singular distributed parameter systems

1993

The paper deals with the distributed parameter systems described by coupled partial differential equations with singular matrix coefficients. Initial-boundary-value problems are considered in the light of both singular 1d systems theory and the Fourier approach to distributed parameter systems. The method presented in this paper gives the possibility of determining acceptable initial-boundary conditions. An illustrative example is given.

Solution Properties of Poly-Electrolytes. XI. Adsorption Effects in Aqueous Size-Exclusion Chromatog-Raphy of Polyanions

1994

Abstract Elution profiles of a series of polymer standards such as sodium poly(styrene sulphonate), poly(acrylic acid) and poly(L-glutamic acid) have been obtained from size-exclusion chromatography experiments using separately two types of hydrophilic supports. A variety of mobile phase compositions have been performed to enhance adsorption effects in order to study how this phenomenon can affect to the chromatographic separation mechanism of polyanions. Distribution coefficient values, in general greater than unity, have served to quantify the adsorption effect, as well as to analyze their dependence on eluent ionic strength, on the ionic groups of the support and on the chemical nature a…

Embedded access points for trusted data and resources access in HPC systems

2010

Biometric authentication systems represent a valid alternative to the conventional username-password based approach for user authentication. However, authentication systems composed of a biometric reader, a smartcard reader, and a networked workstation which perform user authentication via software algorithms have been found to be vulnerable in two areas: firstly in their communication channels between readers and workstation (communication attacks) and secondly through their processing algorithms and/or matching results overriding (replay attacks, confidentiality and integrity threats related to the stored information of the networked workstation). In this paper, a full hardware access poi…

Stationary, Oscillatory, Spatio-Temporal Patterns and Existence of Global Solutions in Reaction-Diffusion Models of Three Species

2023

The goal of my Ph.D. research is to analyze three species models in order to describe the behavior of an ecological community. In particular, two reaction-diffusion systems describing different local interactions between three species have been considered to obtain species coexistence, diversity, and distribution patterns. The first analyzed model describes intraguild predation: there are an IG-predator species, an IG-prey species, and a common resource species, which is shared by both of them. The IGP interaction is of Lotka-Volterra type, coupled with nonlinear diffusion, since we assume that the IG-prey moves towards lower density areas of the IG-predator. In this model, the extinction o…

The Impact of Humic Substances as Remediation Agents to the Speciation Forms of Metals in Soil

2013

Abstract Humic substances (HS) are the most widespread group of organic substances in natural environment and have high stability. The main terrestrial reserves are found in the form of naturally occurring ore, peat or lignite. The aim of this paper is to study possibilities to use HS as agents for remediation of contaminated with heavy metals soil and impacts of HS of metal speciation forms in it. It has been proved that HS are able to bind to metal ions and change their speciation forms in soils. The ability to form complexes with metal ions depends on the type of soil, type of metal, as well as concentrations of HS in soil. The study was carried out in experimental conditions and analyti…

Inter-society consensus document on treatment and prevention of bronchiolitis in newborns and infants

2014

Acute bronchiolitis is the leading cause of lower respiratory t ract infection and hospitalization in children less than 1y ear of age worldwide. It is usually a mild disease, but some children may develop severe symptoms, requiring hospital admission and ventilatory support in the ICU. Infants with pre-existing risk factors (prematurity, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, congenital heart diseases and immunodeficiency) may be predisposed to a severe form of the disease. Clinical diagnosis of bronchiolitis is manly based on medical history and physical examination (rhinorrhea, cough, crackles, wheezing and signs of respiratory distress). Etiological diagnosis, with antigen or genome detection to i…

Peptidomimetics – An infinite reservoir of metal binding motifs in metabolically stable and biologically active molecules

2020

The involvement of metal ions in interactions with therapeutic peptides is inevitable. They are one of the factors able to fine-tune the biological properties of antimicrobial peptides, a promising group of drugs with one large drawback - a problematic metabolic stability. Appropriately chosen, proteolytically stable peptidomimetics seem to be a reasonable solution of the problem, and the use of D-, β-, γ-amino acids, unnatural amino acids, azapeptides, peptoids, cyclopeptides and dehydropeptides is an infinite reservoir of metal binding motifs in metabolically stable, well-designed, biologically active molecules. Below, their specific structural features, metal-chelating abilities and anti…

Complex formation of Tb3+ with glycolate, D-gluconate and α-isosaccharinate in neutral aqueous perchlorate solutions

2003

Summary An electromigration technique was used for measurements of metal-ligand formation constants of non-carrier-free 160Tb3+ with glycolate, D-gluconate and α-isosaccharinate ligands. The overall ion mobilities of Tb at different concentrations of the ligands were measured in chemically inert perchlorate solutions (pH 7 and T= 298.1K) with an overall ionic strength μ = 0.1. The stepwise stoichiometric stability constants are: Tb3+/glycolate: log K 1=2.72(18), log K 2=1.73(19), log K 3= 1.12(17), Tb3+/D-gluconate: log K 1=2.96(11), log K 2=2.60(11), log K 3=1.13(9), Tb3+/α-ISA: log K 1=3.07(8), log K 2 = 2.69(11), log K 3 = 1.80(12).

Eventually periodic solutions of single neuron model

2020

In this paper, we consider a nonautonomous piecewise linear difference equation that describes a discrete version of a single neuron model with a periodic (period two and period three) internal decay rate. We investigated the periodic behavior of solutions relative to the periodic internal decay rate in our previous papers. Our goal is to prove that this model contains a large quantity of initial conditions that generate eventually periodic solutions. We will show that only periodic solutions and eventually periodic solutions exist in several cases.

Dynamic properties of solvent confined in silica gels studied by broadband dielectric spectroscopy

2007

Abstract We report the results of a broadband (10−2–107 Hz) dielectric spectroscopy study on a solvent system (glycerol–water solution) confined in a porous silica matrix. The dielectric relaxation of the system is studied as a function of both temperature (120–280 K) and solvent composition (0–36 glycerol molar percentage), at constant matrix composition. Our data show that glycerol–water systems confined inside silica gel are characterized by a very complex dynamics quite different from that observed in solution, thus indicating that confinement may deeply modify solvent dynamics. Indeed in addition to the relaxation processes similar to those occurring in bulk samples, new dielectric rel…
