Structural, microstructural and dielectric studies in multiferroic LaSrNiO4-δ prepared by mechanical milling method

Abstract The solid solution LaSrNiO 4-δ has been successfully prepared by a rapid method combining mechanical milling and heat treatment. The structure and microstructure transformations were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The dielectric property was also investigated. After 10 h of milling and 8 h of heat treatment at 1300 °C, X-ray diffraction analysis revealed LaSrNiO 4-δ single phase, exhibiting tetragonal structure with space group of I4/mmm. Investigation of mechanical and electrical properties of Li doped sodium niobate ceramic system

ABSTRACTThe Na0.96Li0.04NbO3 ceramic solid solution was prepared by means of a two-stage hot-pressing technology. The X-ray diffraction analysis showed the formation of a single perovskite phase with an orthorhombic symmetry in the investigated composition. The microstructure and EDS measurements were performed. They confirmed the high purity and the expected qualitative composition. A good homogeneity of the microstructures and a small degree of porosity were observed. The elastic modulus (the Young's modulus E, shear modulus G, and Poisson's ratio ν) of Na0.96Li0.04NbO3 were determined with the use of an ultrasonic method. Oxidation resistance of Ti 3 AlC 2 and Ti 3 Al 0.8 Sn 0.2 C 2 MAX phases: A comparison

Ti3AlC2 and Ti3Al0.8Sn0.2C2 MAX phase powders are densified using Spark Plasma Sintering technique to obtain dense bulk materials. Oxidation tests are then performed over the temperature range 800-1000°C under synthetic air on the two different materials in order to compare their oxidation resistance. Thermal stability of magnetic characteristics of Co/Ag/Fe and Co/Ag/Fe20Ni80 spin-valve structures

Abstract We investigated the thermal stability of magnetic characteristics of Co/Ag/Fe and Co/Ag/Fe 20 Ni 80 spin-valve structures. Thin film systems were obtained with the help of sputtering method. For the first type of systems two particular thicknesses ( d ML  = 3 and 20 nm) and different disposition of magnetic layers (ML) were used. For the second type different thickness of Ag ( d NML ) spacer layer was used. The research of the crystal structure was performed with the transmission electron microscope. Raman characterization of Pb2Na1−xLaxNb5−xFexO15 and Pb0.5(5−x)LaxNb5−xFexO15 (0≤x≤1) solid solutions

Abstract The ferroelectric compounds Pb 2 Na 1− x La x Nb 5− x Fe x O 15 and Pb 0.5(5− x ) La x Nb 5− x Fe x O 15 (0≤ x ≤1) with the tungsten bronze type structure have been investigated using Raman spectroscopy. The evolution of the spectra as a function of composition at room temperature is reported. In the frequency range 200–1000 cm −1 three main A 1 phonons around 240 ( υ 1 ), 630 ( υ 2 ) and 816 ( υ 3 ) cm −1 were observed. The broadening of the Raman lines for high values of x originates from a significant structural disorder. This is in good agreement with the relaxor character of these compositions. Two-phase dielectric polar structures in 0.1NBT-0.6ST-0.3PT solid solutions

Abstract In this work we address the peculiarities of the macroscopic responses in ternary 0.1Na0·5Bi0·5TiO3-0.6SrTiO3-0.3PbTiO3 (0.1NBT-0.6ST-0.3PT) solid solutions. These solid solutions exhibit a spontaneous first order relaxor to normal ferroelectric phase transition. The phase transition is accompanied by a broad dielectric relaxation which expands over 10 orders of magnitude in frequency just above the phase transition temperature. The temperature dependence of polarization shows that non-zero net polarization persists above the phase transition temperature. Study of the thermochromic phase transition in CuMo1−xWxO4 solid solutions at the W L3-edge by resonant X-ray emission spectroscopy

Abstract Polycrystalline CuMo 1 − x W x O 4 solid solutions were studied by resonant X-ray emission spectroscopy (RXES) at the W L 3 -edge to follow a variation of the tungsten local atomic and electronic structures across thermochromic phase transition as a function of sample composition and temperature. The experimental results were interpreted using ab initio calculations. The crystal-field splitting parameter Δ for the 5d(W)-states was obtained from the analysis of the RXES plane and was used to evaluate the coordination of tungsten atoms. Phase transitions in Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3-(Sr0.7Bi0.2)TiO3-PbTiO3 solid solutions

ABSTRACTIncreasing of Sr0.7Bi0.2TiO3 concentration in Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3-Sr0.7Bi0.2TiO3 solid solutions causes increasing of Bi/Na relation and vacancies in the A-site of perovskite structure. In temperature dependence of dielectric permittivity, such a change of composition is reflected by transforming of the frequency-dependent shoulder into a maximum characteristic for relaxor ferroelectrics and diminishing of the frequency-independent maximum characteristic for Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3. Analytical solution for the diffusion of a capacitor discharge generated magnetic field pulse in a conductor

Powerful forces arise when a pulse of a magnetic field in the order of a few tesla diffuses into a conductor. Such pulses are used in electromagnetic forming, impact welding of dissimilar materials and grain refinement of solidifying alloys. Strong magnetic field pulses are generated by the discharge current of a capacitor bank. We consider analytically the penetration of such pulse into a conducting half-space. Besides the exact solution we obtain two simple self-similar approximate solutions for two sequential stages of the initial transient.
