Broadband focused waves with compensated spatial dispersion: transverse versus axial balance.

We determine the constraints an ABCD optical system must verify to achieve, at the focal region, broadband waves with compensated spatial dispersion either along the optical axis, called on-axis isodiffracting fields, or in the lateral direction, here named in-plane isodiffracting beams. An optical configuration is identified for generating both types of achromatic broadband focused wave fields. An experimental verification is also provided.

Electronic properties and high-pressure behavior of wolframite-type CoWO4

In this work we characterize wolframite-type CoWO4 under ambient conditions and under compression up to 10 GPa, with emphasis on its electronic structure. X-Ray diffraction and vibrational experiments, supported by ab initio calculations, show that CoWO4 is stable under high-pressure conditions, as no structural changes are detected in the studied pressure range. Interesting findings come from optical absorption spectroscopy. On the one hand, CoWO4 is confirmed to have one of the lowest band gaps among similar wolframites, around 2.25 eV. Crystal structure, magnetic and spectroscopic properties of copper(II) formato dimethylformamide: a new tetracarboxylato-bridged copper(II) dimer

Abstract The crystal and molecular structure of a new tetracarboxylato copper(II) dimer [bis(dimethylformamide)tetrakis(μ-formato)dicopper(II)], has been determined by X-ray diffraction methods. The crystal structure consists of a centrosymmetric dimer [Cu2(HCOO)4(dmf)2], where four bidentate formato anions form syn–syn bridges between the metal ions which are in a 4+1 environment. Magnetic susceptibility data show that the copper ions are strongly antiferromagnetically coupled with J=−470 cm−1. The EPR spectrum shows a characteristic pattern of a triplet state with a D zero field splitting value of 0.27 cm−1.

Guaranteed and computable error bounds for approximations constructed by an iterative decoupling of the Biot problem

The paper is concerned with guaranteed a posteriori error estimates for a class of evolutionary problems related to poroelastic media governed by the quasi-static linear Biot equations. The system is decoupled by employing the fixed-stress split scheme, which leads to an iteratively solved semi-discrete system. The error bounds are derived by combining a posteriori estimates for contractive mappings with functional type error control for elliptic partial differential equations. ADI schemes for valuing European options under the Bates model

Abstract This paper is concerned with the adaptation of alternating direction implicit (ADI) time discretization schemes for the numerical solution of partial integro-differential equations (PIDEs) with application to the Bates model in finance. Three different adaptations are formulated and their (von Neumann) stability is analyzed. Ample numerical experiments are provided for the Bates PIDE, illustrating the actual stability and convergence behaviour of the three adaptations.

Abstract Order flow in equity markets is remarkably persistent in the sense that order signs (to buy or sell) are positively autocorrelated out to time lags of tens of thousands of orders, corresponding to many days. Two possible explanations are herding, corresponding to positive correlation in the behavior of different investors, or order splitting, corresponding to positive autocorrelation in the behavior of single investors. In this paper we proposed the use of saline water to product hydrogen. As far as using saline water, can be proposed two different scheme and technology. The aim of this work is to design an electrolyze system capable of utilizing sea water for direct electrolysis. It is probable that these systems would operate at a low power density and electrolyze only a small portion of the water in contact with electrodes. Study of the annealing conditions and photoelectrochemical characterization of a new iron oxide bi-layered nanostructure for water splitting

Iron oxide nanostructures have emerged as promising materials for being used as photocatalysts for hydrogen production due to their advantageous properties. However, their low carrier mobility and short hole diffusion length limit their efficiency in water splitting. To overcome these drawbacks, in the present study, we synthetized a new hematite (alpha-Fe2O3) bi-layered nanostructure consisting of a top nanosphere layer and a nanotubular underneath one by electrochemical anodization. Ab initio calculations of zero-field splitting parameters in linear polyacenes

Abstract The results of ab initio calculations of zero-field splitting (ZFS) parameters are presented for the linear polyacenes from benzene to pentacene. We show how the electron spin–spin (SS) parameters can be efficiently obtained from restricted high-spin open-shell wave functions (ROHF), and present calculations of these, comparing with the results of a recent multi-configurational self-consistent field approach. The SS parameters are obtained from electron SS coupling strengths evaluated as expectation values over the wave functions and from state-to-state spin–orbit (SO) interactions. Grid-connected power conversion systems for renewable energy sources must fulfill several requirements, including high efficiency, reduced cost and complexity, and, quite often, also boost capabilities from the dc sources to the ac power grid.
