Catalyst activation of silica nano-based pore structure material for hydrogen storage
2011
Silica based composite material with palladium synthesized by extractive-pyrolytic method is used for hydrogen absorption-desorption experiments. The results obtained of the study on dynamic sorption experiments showed that Pyrex glass based composite sample reaches high hydrogen concentration in the material quite fast. Thought silica gel based composite material rapidly reaches 1/2 of hydrogen load but afterwards the amount of hydrogenation increases slowly. The overall amount of absorbed hydrogen for Pyrex glass based material exceeds the amount of absorbed hydrogen by silica gel based material approximately 5.6 times.
Electrooxidation of Sesame Oil in Acid Electrolyte
2019
The energy industry is based mainly on coal, crude oil, natural gas or nuclear energy. However, in recent years renewable energy sources have also become increasingly used. One of the devices that uses renewable energy sources is a fuel cell (FC). The fuel cell can be powered by hydrogen, methanol, hydrazine or other substrates. Commercial fuel cells use mainly hydrogen, methanol or hydrazine. Due to the fact that water is the only by-product, hydrogen is the considered to be the best fuel for fuel cells. Problems with hydrogen storage cause, however, that new fuels for FCs are very desirable. Vegetable oil seems to be such substance, application of which as fuel in FCs is possible. But in …
Synchrotron Radiation and Chemistry: Studies of Materials for Renewable Energy Sources
2014
We present an overview of selected applications of synchrotron radiation methods to topical chemical research. The analysis is limited to the studies on materials for renewable energy sources, focussing on topics peculiar to chemical research, such as reactivity and synthesis routes; in particular, the paper takes into account subjects having some relevance for the production and storage of energy based on hydrogen. Hydrogen production and storage are taken into account in the sections concerning: (i) Dye-sensitized solar cells, (ii) Metal-organic frameworks and (iii) Hydrides for hydrogen storage; production of energy by fuel cell devices is treated in (iv) Oxide ion and proton conductors …
Reaction pathways for atomic layer deposition with lithium hexamethyl disilazide, trimethyl phosphate, and oxygen plasma
2020
Atomic layer deposition (ALD) of lithium-containing films is of interest for the development of next-generation energy storage devices. Lithium hexamethyl disilazide (LiHMDS) is an established precursor to grow these types of films. The LiHMDS molecule can either be used as a single-source precursor molecule for lithium or as a dual-source precursor molecule for lithium and silicon. Single-source behavior of LiHMDS is observed in the deposition process with trimethylphosphate (TMP) resulting in the deposition of crystalline lithium phosphate (Li3PO4). In contrast, LiHMDS exhibits dual-source behavior when combined with O2 plasma, resulting in a lithium silicate. Both processes were characte…
Snapshot RGB mapping of skin melanin and hemoglobin.
2015
The concept of snapshot red-green-blue (RGB) multispectral imaging was applied for skin chromophore mapping. Three monochromatic spectral images have been extracted from a single RGB image dataset at simultaneous illumination of skin by 473-, 532-, and 659-nm laser lines. The spectral images were further transformed into distribution maps of skin melanin, oxyhemoglobin, and deoxyhemoglobin, related to pigmented and vascular skin malformations. The performance and clinical potential of the proposed technique are discussed
Giant Enhancement in the Supercapacitance of NiFe–Graphene Nanocomposites Induced by a Magnetic Field
2019
The rapid rise in energy demand in the past years has prompted a search for low-cost alternatives for energy storage, supercapacitors being one of the most important devices. It is shown that a dramatic enhancement (≈1100%, from 155 to 1850 F g-1 ) of the specific capacitance of a hybrid stimuli-responsive FeNi3 -graphene electrode material can be achieved when the charge/discharge cycling is performed in the presence of an applied magnetic field of 4000 G. This result is related to an unprecedented magnetic-field-induced metal segregation of the FeNi3 nanoparticles during the cycling, which results in the appearance of small Ni clusters (<5 nm) and, consequently, in an increase in pseudoca…
Ternary and quaternary Ge-S-Se-Sb-Te amorphous chalcogenide thin films for mid-infrared applications
2017
International audience; Chalcogenide materials exhibit a unique portfolio of properties which has led to their wide use for nonvolatile memory applications such as optical storage (CD-RW and DVD-RAM), Conductive Bridging Random Access Memory or Phase Change Random Access Memory (PCRAM). More recently, thanks to huge electronic nonlinearities under electrical field application, chalcogenide glasses are considered as most promising materials to be used as Ovonic Threshold Switching (OTS) selectors [1]. Besides, thanks to high transparency window in the infrared range and large optical nonlinearities [2], chalcogenide alloys offer the opportunity of development of innovative mid-infrared (MIR)…
Large modulation of perpendicular magnetic anisotropy in a BiFeO3/Al2O3/Pt/Co/Pt multiferroic heterostructure via spontaneous polarizations
2018
Magnetism control has a variety of applications in magnetic storage and spintronic devices. Instead of the control of direct magnetoelectric coupling via strain, voltage, and Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction, the polarization-dependent coupling in multiferroic materials such as BiFeO3 is employed for the electric-field control of magnetizations in this work. A perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) has been realized in a BiFeO3/Al2O3/Pt/Co/Pt multiferroic structure at room temperature. Interestingly, a distinct change of coercivity field (∼400%) has been observed in the structure with opposite polarization directions, which can be attributed to the different oxidation degree at the Pt/Co …
Diamond Films as Support for Electrochemical Systems for Energy Conversion and Storage
2019
Many efforts have been dedicated to develop and study different catalysts supported materials for energy storage and conversion. Polymer electrolyte membranes (PEM) and capacitors have been topics of special interest for the scientific community, then, the research to find excellent catalyst-supports has constantly increased. The use of conductive diamond films has been proposed due to their mechanical and chemical stability properties. In this context, the application of BDD-catalyst surfaces for PEM fuel cells as well as the production of electrochemical capacitors using BDD materials have been summarized and discussed in this chapter.

2020
Hydrated inorganic salts are phase change materials (PCMs) with promising thermal energy storage capacity. However, their application is commonly restricted because of problems of phase segregation...
