Review of the volume that aims to contribute to the analysis of the experiential dimension of cults and beliefs (la religion vécue). The common thread running through the contributions collected here share the basic idea, that religion and ritual have to do with the collective ethos and the values they regulate the functioning of the company, thanks to their "performative stability" mechanism.

In the Sumerian and Akkadian mythological literature, the ruler of the city of Uruk, Gilgameš, uproots and/or cuts down trees on several occasions: the ḫalub-tree (mahaleb cherry) linked to the goddess Inanna and the eren (juniper)/erēnu (cedar) trees of the Forest guarded by Ḫuwawa. These trees should be understood as elements of a wider "wilderness", with which they share a powerful and ambiguous ontological otherness, as opposed to the city and the country of Sumer. Questo contributo esamina, nella consolatio ad parentes che chiude il logos epitaphios, il modo in cui Pericle propone di superare il lutto che ha colpito alcuni padri nel primo anno di guerra, invitandoli in primo luogo a generare altri figli. Ciò consentirebbe a quei padri di superare la potenziale aporia tra l’agire nell'interesse strettamente individuale e l’agire nell’interesse della grandezza della polis, obliando il dolore privato con la procreazione di altri figli e con l’onore garantito dalla memoria pubblica: verrebbe così ripristinato l’equilibrio necessario tra partecipazione democratica, condizione di rischio condivisa e adeguatezza del processo deliberativo.
