VR Storytelling

The monographic section of this issue of Cinergie arises from a need that has becoming increasingly acute in the past few years, namely that of closely examining the modes, practices, strategies, and forms of storytelling used in the various forms and experiences of Virtual Reality (VR) entertainment. The question that we asked ourselves, and thus also the eld of analysis that we wanted to open focuses primarily on two elements: first, on if and how cinematic narration can exist in VR; second, on what paths the development of a form of storytelling not directly tied to cinematic language might take.

The aim of the following investigation is the analysis of the evolution of Carmen Laforet’s poetics from the 1950s onwards. The Catholic conversion of the author entails a literary approach to themes that must be considered fundamental for the generación del medio siglo and that, although indirectly, determine the process of adherence of the author to the abovementioned group. Therefore, some short stories and novels written after 1950 and the novel La mujer nueva (1955) are analysed, with particular attention to the process of configuration of the main characters in the works under investigation.

It is commonly held among scholars that in the Stalin years no specific mass literature existed in the Soviet Union; what do we do, then, with Lev Ovalov’s Major Pronin or with Lev Sheinin’s stories, which began to appear since the mid-Thirties? What about Nikolai Shpanov’s post-war million-sellers? The Soviet authorities did not like to admit that they published low-quality literature aimed at the uncultured masses; they valued, however, its propa- ganda potential, hence this contradictory situation.
