2-(1-Aryliminoethyl)-9-arylimino-5,6,7,8- tetrahydrocycloheptapyridyl iron(II) dichloride: synthesis, characterization, and the highly active and tun…
2014
A series of 2-(1-arylimino)ethyl-9-arylimino-5,6,7,8-tetrahydrocycloheptapyridine derivatives was synthesized and fully characterized, and thereafter reacted with iron dichloride to form their corresponding iron(II) complexes. The single crystals of representative organic and iron complex compounds were obtained and analyzed by the X-ray diffraction analysis, indicating the distorted bipyramidal geometry around the iron core. Moreover, DFT calculations were performed on selected species to determine their structural features. On treatment with either MAO or MMAO, all iron complex pre-catalysts showed high activities (up to 1.56 × 10(7) gPE mol(-1)(Fe) h(-1)) toward ethylene polymerization. …
1‐Oxa‐3‐cyclooctin
1990
1-Oxa-3-cyclooctyne According to an MNDO calculation, 1-oxa-cyclooctyne (13) and 1-oxa-3-cyclooctyne (14) are 8-membered heterocyclic ring systems with high steric energy (ring strain). On the basis of THF (1) and acetoacetic ester (4), a multi-step synthesis is described for 14. The triple bond is introduced in the last step by a thermal fragmentation of the 1,2,3-selenadiazole 12.
Cyclooctadienine — hoch gespannte C 8 H 8 ‐Kohlenwasserstoffe
1985
Cyclooctadienynes — Highly Strained C8H8-Hydrocarbons Applying the MNDO-method the conformations with lowest energy of the isomeric cyclooctadienynes 1–4 are calculated. The geometrical ring strains Eg can be evaluated from the enthalpies of formation ΔHf in relation to the cyclooctatrienes 5 and 6. UV, IR (Raman) and 13C NMR spectra serve…
Differential electrophysiologic and inotropic effects of phenylephrine in atrial and ventricular heart muscle preparations from rats.
1991
Stimulation of alpha 1-adrenoceptors evokes a different pattern of inotropic responses in atrial and ventricular heart muscle preparations from rats. The inotropic effects are accompanied by different changes in membrane potential. In an attempt to clarify the question whether or to which extent these events are causally related, the effects of phenylephrine on force of contraction, transmembrane potential, Ca2+ current (ICa) and K+ currents were comparatively studied in either tissue. In atrial preparations, phenylephrine 10 mumol/l caused an increase in force of contraction, a marked prolongation of the action potential duration and a depolarization of the membrane at rest. In the ventric…
cGMP-Dependent Protein Kinase I Mediates the Negative Inotropic Effect of cGMP in the Murine Myocardium
2002
To study the role of cGMP-dependent protein kinase I (cGKI) for cardiac contractility, force of contraction (F c ) was studied in electrically driven heart muscle from wild-type (WT) mice and from conventional and conditional cGKI knockout mice. Both 8-Br-cGMP and 8-pCPT-cGMP reduced Fc in cardiac muscle from juvenile WT but not from juvenile cGKI-null mutants. Similarly, the cGMP analogues reduced F c in forskolin-stimulated ventricular muscle from WT mice but not from cGKI-null mutants. In contrast, carbachol reduced F c in both groups of animals. 8-Br-cGMP reduced F c also in heart muscle from adult WT mice but not from adult cardiomyocyte-specific cGKI-knockout mice. These results demo…
Perlecan Maintains microvessel integrity in vivo and modulates their formation in vitro
2012
Perlecan is a heparan sulfate proteoglycan assembled into the vascular basement membranes (BMs) during vasculogenesis. In the present study we have investigated vessel formation in mice, teratomas and embryoid bodies (EBs) in the absence of perlecan. We found that perlecan was dispensable for blood vessel formation and maturation until embryonic day (E) 12.5. At later stages of development 40% of mutant embryos showed dilated microvessels in brain and skin, which ruptured and led to severe bleedings. Surprisingly, teratomas derived from perlecan-null ES cells showed efficient contribution of perlecan-deficient endothelial cells to an apparently normal tumor vasculature. However, in perlecan…
Endothelial Nitric Oxide Synthase Regulates T Cell Receptor Signaling at the Immunological Synapse
2006
The role of nitric oxide (NO) in T cells remains controversial, and the origin and localization of endogenous NO and whether it regulates lymphocyte activation are unclear. We show here that, within minutes of binding to antigen, T cells produce NO via endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS). This process required increased intracellular Ca2+ and phosphoinositide3-kinase activity. By using an eNOS-green fluorescent fusion protein and fluorescent probes to detect NO, we show that eNOS translocates with the Golgi apparatus to the immune synapse of T helper cells engaged with antigen-presenting cells (APC), where it was fully activated. Overexpression of eNOS prevented the central coalescence…
Interleukin 4 suppresses primary interferon gamma response by T cells immunized in vivo and cultured in vitro with interleukin 2.
1996
This paper describes a novel primary in vivo/in vitro culture system which allows analysis of the effect of IL-4 added to culture 1 day after immunization on the production of IFN-gamma. Mice are immunized epicutaneously with picryl chloride (TNP) and draining lymph node cells were harvested 1 day later. These cells (1 day lymph node cells), when cultured in vitro for 3 days in the presence of IL-2, either continuously or as a pulse, give an IFN-gamma response on reexposure to antigen 3 days later. This production of IFN-gamma is both antigen-specific and genetically (MHC)-restricted and is due to both CD8+ and CD4+ T cells. However, if 1 day lymph node cells are cultured with both IL-2 and…
The European Union as a normal international actor: an analysis of the EU Global Strategy
2019
For a long time, the European Union (EU) has been described by many scholars and policymakers as a civilian and a normative power. This article argues that these concepts do not accurately capture the foreign policy behaviour of the EU as prescribed in the European Union Global Strategy (EUGS). It first situates EU identity and role played in international relations within role strain theory. Then, it notes that the EU has difficulties fulfilling duties connected with its international identity and role. The second part of the article uses three indicators to examine whether the EU is pursuing ‘normal’ international actor status or not, drawing on the Strategy and relevant literature to do …
