Rôle des antigènes tissulaires de groupes sanguins humains A, B, H et Lewis dans l'évolution des Norovirus GII.4

2011

Noroviruses are one of the leading causes of gastroenteritis worldwide. Since 2002 successive GII.4 variants have circulated in the population before being replaced every 2-3 years, which raises questions about the role of their histo-blood group antigen (HBGAs) receptors in their evolution. We analyzed the interaction between representative GII.4 variants and HBGAs and determined the role of selected amino acids (aa) in the binding profiles. By mutagenesis, we showed that there was a strict structural requirement for the aa directly implicated in HBGA bindings. The ablation of the threonine 395 residue, an epidemiological feature of the post 2002 variants, allowed to gain the capacity to b…

Etude dynamique et structurale de biomolécules par microscopie à force atomique HS-AFM : application à une petite protéine de choc thermique sHsp

2012

The atomic force microscopy (AFM) gives access to the topography of organic and inorganic samplesat the atomic scale. The latest innovations offer the possiblity to understand the sample nano-mechanicalproperties (elasticity, adhesion...). Its feature set allows overcoming the demands of nanotechnology, both in the fields of physics, chemistry and biology. However, understanding biological processes require faster acquisitions for the atomic forcemicroscopy, less than a second per frame. As conventional equipment does not offer the possibility toovercome the constraint of time for dynamical studies, a prototype of high-speed atomic forcemicroscope (HS-AFM) was developed in partnership with Pr…

Measuring vine leaf roughness by image processing

2013

International audience; In precision spraying, spray application efficiency depends on the pesticide application method, the phytosanitary product as well as the leaf surface properties. For environmental and economic reasons, the global trend is to reduce the pesticide application rate of the few approved active substances. Under these constraints, one of the challenges is to improve the efficiency of pesticide application. Different parameters can influence on pesticide application as nozzle types, liquid viscosity and leaf surface. Specific models have been developed showing that the predominant factor for the leaf is the leaf roughness, because it is related on adhesion mechanisms of li…

Les revêtements architecturaux et leur(s) fonction(s) : pour une compréhension du décor des édifices gallo-romains de la cité des Éduens, des Lingons…

2015

Since the international colloquium organized in Toulouse in 2008, “ Decoration and architecture in Gaul, from Antiquity to Early Middle Ages : mosaic, wall-painting, stucco ”, the combine study of the antique architectural surfaces has been brought forward, which allowed to shed some new light on various aspects of the subject, particularly with regard to the function. To answer the question, the geographical area studied is composed of three bordering civitates where some important elements of decoration were discovered, from the first century B.-C. to the fifth century A.-C, from the beginning to the end of the Gallo-roman period. The architectural surfaces show first the adaptation of th…

Mapping soil and substratum at a very high spatial resolution in the hillslope of Couchey (France)

2012

International audience; In this work, we present a method based on very high spatial resolution (VHSR) aerial images acquired in the visible domain and that map soil surface diversity at the hillslope scale with a spatial resolution of a few centimeters. This method combines aerial VHSR image classification with local soil sampling. Principal component analysis (PCA) and non-supervised classification was performed on image characteristics to define soil surface characteristic classes (SSC). Then soil surface mapping was combined with soil surface descriptions and soil profiles to define soil types by physical and chemical characteristics. As soil results from parent material alteration, ide…

Surface plasmon interference excited by tightly focused laser beams

2007

International audience; We show that interfering surface plasmon polaritons can be excited with a focused laser beam at normal incidence to a plane metal film. No protrusions or holes are needed in this excitation scheme. Depending on the axial position of the focus, the intensity distribution on the metal surface is either dominated by interferences between counterpropagating plasmons or by a two-lobe pattern characteristic of localized surface plasmon excitation. Our experiments can be accurately explained by use of the angular spectrum representation and provide a simple means for locally exciting standing surface plasmon polaritons.

The EuroSTARRS airborne campaign in support of the SMOS mission: first results over land surfaces

2004

A number of experiments using ground-based and airborne sensors have shown the high potential of L-band passive microwave radiometry for estimating and monitoring surface soil moisture. This has led to the Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) mission, a European Space Agency (ESA) Earth Explorer Opportunity mission. SMOS has the objective to observe soil moisture over land and sea surface salinity over sea, both key parameters for atmospheric, oceanographic and hydrological predictive models. In preparation of SMOS, the EuroSTARRS airborne campaign was carried out in November 2001. Multi-angular measurements of the surface brightness temperature at L-band (1.4 GHz) at vertical polarizati…

Contribution to the study of interaction between residual stress and oxygen diffusion in a deformable and reactive solid

2011

The aim of this PhD work is to highlight the interactions between the mechanical stress and the chemical composition within diffusion of matter process for a reactive solid. The chronological evolution of our work goes from a parametric numerical study to an experimental study and reveals the role of mechanical stresses on the oxygen diffusion process.Different origins of mechanical stress were first numerically analysed from the point of view of their impacts on the process of oxygen diffusion into a metal (Zr) or a ceramic (UO2) subjected to an oxidizing environment. This approach allowed us: to identify a surface treatment (shot-peening) able to generate a residual specific stress field,…
