Detection of local specular gloss and surface roughness from black prints
2007
A combination of optical and tomographic imaging techniques for inspection of local surface roughness and specular gloss of black prints and coated paper are introduced. A diffractive optical-element-based glossmeter (DOG) and a low-coherence interferometer (LCI) were used to obtain local information about the print in terms of topographic and gloss maps. X-ray microcomputed tomography (μCT) was used to obtain 3D local structural information of the coated paper. Gloss and topographic maps were used to determine statistical gloss and roughness parameters. These parameters were useful when analysing the surface condition of prints and coated paper. We found an orientation-dependent gloss slop…
Precise mapping of the Goodpasture epitope(s) using phage display, site-directed mutagenesis, and surface plasmon resonance.
2013
Goodpasture disease is an autoimmune disorder mediated by circulating autoantibodies against the noncollagenous-1 (NC1) domain of the alpha 3 chain of type IV collagen (alpha 3(IV)NC1). The structure of Goodpasture epitope(s) has been previously mapped into two main binding regions (E-A and E-B) of the alpha 3(IV)NC1 domain using a residue mutation approach on the highly related alpha 1(IV)NC1 domain. Here we combined phage display and surface plasmon resonance technology to more precisely localize the pathogenic binding sites. Peptides mimicking the Goodpasture epitope(s) were used to identify residues involved in autoantibody binding and found involvement of eight residues previously unre…
Geometry/Time Measurement/Sundials Graphical Resolution via Algorithmic and Parametric Processes
2018
Every people, in every historical period, developed methods to measure Time both at a daily scale and at a yearly scale. Some of them constructed sundials to represent the apparent trajectory of the Sun around the Earth, by using and developing tools from descriptive and projective Geometry, mainly. This subject acquired a great multidisciplinary interest since ancient times, also for Science of Representation applications. This study presents the first results of an ongoing research concerning some aspects related to Time Measurement. The geometric-spatial setting of the Sun-Earth system is described and is structured parametrically via algorithms, following the known conventions shared an…
Permanent Porosity in Hydroxamate Titanium-Organic Polyhedra.
2021
Following the synthesis of hydroxamate titanium–organic frameworks, we now extend these siderophore-type linkers to the assembly of the first titanium–organic polyhedra displaying permanent porosity. Mixed-linker versions of this molecular cage (cMUV-11) are also used to demonstrate the effect of pore chemistry in accessing high surface areas of near 1200 m2·g–1.
Progress in the standardisation of particle and surface characterisation
2002
In 1999, we published a comprehensive survey of standards and certified reference materials for dispersed and porous solids. The present paper summarises and reports on new standards and proposals.
A Theoretical Determination of the Low-lying Electronic States of the p-Benzosemiquinone Radical Anion
2000
The low-lying electronic states of the p-benzosemiquinone radical anion are studied using multiconfigurational second-order perturbation theory (CASPT2) and extended atomic natural orbital (ANO) ba...
