Intellectual engagements of accounting academics: The ‘forecasted losses' intervention

This paper explores the social and political potential of accounting scholarship, presenting and discussing an intellectual intervention challenging a legislative reform that significantly affected Spanish industrial relations. In this reform, an accounting artifact (forecasted losses) played an unexpected role and was misrepresented, prompting a sizeable number of scholars to sign two manifestos in 2010 and 2012 against the use of forecasted losses made by the new legislation. Replicating consumer value scales: A comparative study of EVS and PERVAL at a cultural heritage site

Abstract PERVAL (PERceived VALue) scale has been frequently replicated and adapted in tourism to measure consumer value; however, EVS (Experiential Value Scale) better reflects the experiential nature of tourism consumption. Focusing on a famous cultural heritage site in France (Chambord castle), this research compares PERVAL and EVS by replicating them as concisely as possible. Application of the slurry technique to biological materials: a survey of literature

The literature on the application of the slurry technique to biological materials is reviewed. It is obvious from the various applications that the most frequently employed atomization method for slurry analysis in biological materials is electrothermal atomization using either graphite tube or platform atomizers. The slurry technique is particularly useful when certified reference materials are not available and when the standard addition method is to be avoided. The literature survey revealed that this technique compares favourably with other methods for the determination of trace metals in biological materials.

Abstract: Exogenous shocks like the COVID-19 pandemic unleashes multiple fundamental questions about society beyond public health. Based on the classical concept of 'need for orientation' and the literature on the role of the media in times of crisis, we investigate to what extent the COVID-19 pandemic affected news consumption in comparative perspective. Based on a two-wave panel survey in 17 mostly European countries, our study targets the role of both legacy news brands (TV, radio, newspapers) and so-called contemporary news media (Internet-based and social media) during this global health crisis.
