Is the Ghosh model interesting?

2009

International audience; The overall value of the Ghosh model is appraised. Its treatment of quantities and prices is scrutinized by examining the variant with data in quantities and prices, and the variant with data in value and price indexes. The methodology involves returning to the accounting equations and shows that: (i) the Ghosh model offers solutions of limited interest, being incapable of providing prices or price indexes separately from quantities; (ii) what is taken to be the equation of Ghosh's value model is actually that of Ghosh's physical model; (iii) the Ghosh model may serve for cost-push exercises, but the dual of the Leontief model performs the same task in a much simpler…

Solvates of Dasatinib: Diversity and Isostructurality

2015

A series of dasatinib crystalline forms were obtained, and a hierarchical cluster analysis of their powder X-ray diffraction patterns was performed. The resulting dendrogram implies 3 structural groups. The crystal structures of several solvates representing 2 of these groups were determined. The crystal structure analysis confirms the isostructurality of solvates within structural group I and suggests a correlation between solvent molecule size and trends in crystal structures within this group. In addition, the formation relationships in 2-solvent media between different dasatinib solvate groups were determined. The formation preference of solvates was found to follow the ranking group I …

Self-Organization of 2-Acylaminopyridines in the Solid State and in Solution

2010

Aggregation of 2-acylaminopyridines and their 6-methyl derivatives in chloroform solution was studied by (1)H, (13)C, and (15)N NMR spectroscopies. The results were compared with (13)C and (15)N CPMAS NMR and IR spectral as well as with X-ray structural data. Intermolecular interactions in solution and in solid state were found to have a similar nature. Relatively strong N(amide)-H···N(pyridine) intermolecular hydrogen bonds enable dimerization to take place. Steric interactions in N-pivaloyl- and N-1-adamantylcarbonyl as well as that caused by the 6-methyl group hinder formation of the dimeric aggregates stabilized by the N(amide)-H···N(pyridine) intermolecular hydrogen bonds. In general, …

Evaluation of the enamel etching pattern of self-etching adhesives

2010

Objectives: To evaluate the capacity of seven self-etching adhesives (SEAs) to demineralize ground enamel in comparison with traditional phosphoric acid etchant (PAE) using SEM and statistical analysis. Materials and methods: 80 caries-free extracted human third molars were divided into 8 groups ( n = 10). Enamel bur-cut surfaces were prepared and, strictly following the manufacturers’ instructions, treated with three priming agents of two-step self-etching adhesives: Aqua Resulcin Prime (Group 1); Peak™ (Group 2); Clearfil Protect Bond (Group 3); four one-step self-etch (all-in-one) adhesives, G-Bond (Group 4); Artegral One (Group 5); Clearfil S3 Bond (Group 6); Adper Easy Bond (Group 7); …

The "Mathematical Table" in the Chinese Lodge of Palermo

2015

The end of the 18th century sees the decline of the late baroque and rococo in the decorative arts and the origin of the neoclassic essentiality. Nonetheless, the spirit of competition among the members of the European courts and of the aristocracy in erecting magnificent residences inside spectacular parks, full of astonishing pieces of furniture, is still alive and floods of money are spent without restraint. In this very period, a new curious type of dining table makes its appearance in the aristocratic dwelling houses and precisely in the hunting lodge of the Bourbon Court close to the city of Palermo in Sicily: the "Mathematical Table". This name is due to the fantasy of its designer, …

Effect of water level and climatic factors on the radial growth of black alder

2011

Effect of water level and climatic factors on the radial growth of black alder Black alder (Alnus glutinosa (L.) Gaertn.) is a widespread tree species in Europe and the western part of the temperate climate zone. The area of forest in Latvia dominated by this tree species has substantially decreased due to wide-spread forest drainage. To predict future changes due to environmental change, it is extremely important to understand the function of ecosystems with black alder and their dynamics. Tree rings can be used as a proxy of past environmental factors. The aim of the study was to determine the effects of meteorological and hydrological factors on radial growth of black alder at two study …

Chemical investigation of hassium (element 108).

2002

The periodic table provides a classification of the chemical properties of the elements. But for the heaviest elements, the transactinides, this role of the periodic table reaches its limits because increasingly strong relativistic effects on the valence electron shells can induce deviations from known trends in chemical properties. In the case of the first two transactinides, elements 104 and 105, relativistic effects do indeed influence their chemical properties, whereas elements 106 and 107 both behave as expected from their position within the periodic table. Here we report the chemical separation and characterization of only seven detected atoms of element 108 (hassium, Hs), which were…

Nitrous oxide emission budgets and land-use-driven hotspots for organic soils in Europe

2014

Organic soils are a main source of direct emissions of nitrous oxide (N2O), an important greenhouse gas (GHG). Observed N2O emissions from organic soils are highly variable in space and time, which causes high uncertainties in national emission inventories. Those uncertainties could be reduced when relating the upscaling process to a priori-identified key drivers by using available N2O observations from plot scale in empirical approaches. We used the empirical fuzzy modelling approach MODE to identify main drivers for N2O and utilize them to predict the spatial emission pattern of European organic soils. We conducted a meta-study with a total amount of 659 annual N2O measurements, which was…
