This paper considers multilingualism from the point of view of language learning and teaching. We discuss the ‘monological’ thinking in linguistics and in the research of language learning and teaching and argue that the monological stand, more often than not, also embeds a monolingual bias. As an alternative to monologism, we discuss dialogical notion of language and argue that this inherently involves a multilingual stand. peerReviewed

In this qualitative study the author examined personal narratives written by 14 Finnish speaking student teachers of Swedish, in order to find out what they tell about their thoughts and feelings concerning their future work as language teachers. Promotion of school engagement through dialogic teaching practices in the context of a teacher professional development programme

This study was conducted in the context of a teacher professional development programme that aimed to improve dialogic teaching in the classroom, and it describes the programme and examines the change in teachers' dialogic teaching practices and pupils' classroom engagement during the programme. Data on pupils' school engagement were collected using classroom video recordings and students' self-ratings at the end of the lesson including dialogic teaching practices. El presente trabajo pretende valorar los resultados obtenidos mediante la utilización del dibujo y de las descripciones a lo largo de una actividad basada en la observación de la morfología de las hormigas. Se plantea un trabajo individual y autónomo donde los participantes, en 3 etapas diferentes, deben tratar de dibujar o describir su observación de muestras vivas de hormigas. Los resultados de la investigación son muy significativos, puesto que encontramos diferencias estadísticas entre la utilización de las dos estrategias, así como entre las producciones de cada etapa, pudiendo ver cómo evolucionan sus representaciones mentales.
