Risk Factors Associated with Carious Lesions in Permanent First Molars in Children: A Seven-Year Retrospective Cohort Study

2020

The aim of this study was to evaluate the risk factors associated with the occurrence of caries in permanent teeth (PT) and in the permanent first molar (PFM) seven years after their eruption. Children born in 2005 who were enrolled in a Community Dental Program were included. A total of 278 children were enrolled. Evaluated risk factors were parental caries experience, educational level of the mother, routine medications, systemic diseases, dietary habits, toothbrushing frequency, existence of molar incisor hypomineralization (MIH) in the PT, and caries in the temporary teeth (TT). Associations between independent variables and the DMF-T (decayed, missing, and filled teeth in PT) and DMF-M…

Using the Breeder genetic algorithm to optimize a multiple regression analysis model used in prediction of the mesiodistal width of unerupted teeth

2014

For the prediction of the unerupted canine and premolars mesiodistal size, have been proposed different variants of multiple linear regression equations (MLRE). These are based on the amount of the upper and lower permanent incisors with a tooth of the lateral support. Aim of present study was to develop a method for optimization of MLRE, using a genetic algorithm for determining a set of coefficients that minimizes the prediction error for the sum of permanent premolars and canines dimensions from a group of young people in an area Romania's central city represented by Sibiu. To test the proposed method, we used a multiple linear regression equation derived from the estimation method propo…

Push-out bond strength of different endodontic obturation material at three different sites : in-vitro study

2017

BACKGROUND The key to success of any root canal therapy is adequate obturation of the prepared root canal space. Root canal sealers are not dimensionally stable and might dissolve partially over a period of time. The objective of this in vitro study is to evaluate the push-out bond strength to intraradicular dentin of two endodontic obturation materials. MATERIAL AND METHODS Forty extracted single rooted permanent teeth were used. Canals orifice was explored, teeth were instrumented. The samples were divided into two groups each containing twenty specimens obturated with different obturation material (Group1 Epiphany/Resilon and Group 2 Gutta Percha/AH Plus). The obturation systems used in t…

Analysis of the unpredictable migration of impacted mandibular third molars: A pilot study

2020

Background Eruption of an impacted mandibular third molar (3MM) is often unpredictable. The objective of this study was to establish the radiographic parameters of migration in patients whose 3MMs evolved unpredictably. Material and Methods This was a retrospective observational study. Patients with unusual 3MM migration (away from their physiological eruption position with changes in the longitudinal and horizontal axes) and with at least two panoramic radiographs were included. To evaluate the radiographic parameters, images were superimposed, using mandibular angle and ipsilateral condyle as references. Results Of a total of 2851 patients, four were included in our study. The average age…

Wear in Antagonist Teeth Produced by Monolithic Zirconia Crowns: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

2020

Background: The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to determine the wear sustained in the natural antagonist tooth in cases of full-coverage fixed-base prosthetic restorations or monolithic zirconia tooth-supported crowns, as well as to determine the wear in the restoration itself, both in the short- and medium-term and considering the factors that may influence wear. Material and methods: A systematic literature review and meta-analysis, based on Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) recommendations, of clinical studies that evaluated wear in antagonist teeth in relation to fixed-prosthesis monolithic zirconia crowns. A total of 5 data…

‘Just keep on walking in a straight line': allowing for chance in Zadie Smith's overdetermined London (White Teeth, The Autograph Man and On Beauty)

2008

International audience; Zadie Smith's three novels signal a sullen yet coherent evolution in the representation of both real and fictional London. Each of the three texts reveals a threefold failure in the way the city can become the ideal place for the characters to know and fulfil themselves. London is first a mere topographical and cultural gridlock: its neighbourhoods are overdetermined in a way that leads to the negation of the individual, leaving no space for action and banning any type of self-improvement. Yet Smith's London in White Teeth is not as coded as often claimed, and may provide some tools to pervert this conditioning of places and people. The novels indeed examine the dyna…

The effects of three remineralizing agents on regression of white spot lesions in children: A two-week, single-blind, randomized clinical trial.

2016

Background This study investigated the effect of three remineralizing agents on improving white spot lesions (WSLs). Material and Methods This clinical trial included children who had at least one WSL on anterior teeth of upper or lower jaws. The participants were randomly assigned to 4 groups by treatment: 1) a cream containing casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate and fluoride (MI Paste Plus); 2) a cream containing hydroxyapatite and fluoride (Remin Pro); 3) a 2% sodium fluoride gel; and 4) usual home care (control). The treatment was performed for 3 times over 10 days using special trays for retaining remineralizing agents. The area and mineral content of WSLs were measured a…

Periodontal Behavior and Patient Satisfaction of Anterior Teeth Restored with Single Zirconia Crowns Using a Biologically Oriented Preparation Techni…

2021

bjectives. The aim of this study was to analyze the behavior of the periodontal tissues around teeth in the anterior region when restored with zirconia single crowns, using a biologically oriented preparation technique (BOPT), over a 6-year follow-up. Methods. The study investigated tooth-supported single crowns in the anterior region that were fabricated with a zirconia core and feldspathic ceramic covering, in 34 patients. Follow-up analysis took place annually for 6 years, assessing periodontal responses by evaluating the following variables: plaque index (PI)

A New System for Choosing the Form and Size of Complete Denture Anterior Teeth

2016

Introduction: In the absence of pre-extraction records, the choice of the size an form of anterior complete denture teeth can be extremely subjective. Several clinical and statistical parameters are usually used for choosing the correct size and form of the complete denture anterior teeth. Clinical Innovation: The technique consists of a system that allows the dentist to choose and, if necessary, easily change the dental mold during maxillomandibular recording session. The unique feature of the system is that six teeth of each mold are represented by veneers, which are connected to each other on the lingual surface by a fiber that allows each veneer some degree of movement. Discussion: This…
