The Effects of Attachment, Temperament, and Self-Esteem on Technology Addiction: A Mediation Model among Young Adults
2022
Excessive use of technology has become a worldwide problem due to its high prevalence, fast growth rate, and undesirable consequences. However, little is known about underlying psychological mechanisms that maintain excessive use of technology. We investigated the mediating role of self-esteem, novelty seeking, and persistence on the relationship between attachment dimensions and technology addiction among young adults. Data were collected from 727 young adults (females, N = 478; 66.3 percent), aged 23.44 ± 3.02 years. Participants completed self-report measures of secure and insecure attachment dimensions, personality, and temperament characteristics (i.e., self-esteem, novelty seeking, an…
Emotional expressiveness of 5–6 month-old infants born very premature versus full-term at initial exposure to weaning foods
2016
International audience; Facial expressions of 5-6 month-old infants born preterm and at term were compared while tasting for the first time solid foods (two fruit and two vegetable purees) given by the mother. Videotapes of facial reactions to these foods were objectively coded during the first six successive spoons of each test food using Baby FACS and subjectively rated by naive judges. Infant temperament was also assessed by the parents using the Infant Behaviour Questionnaire. Contrary to our expectations, infants born preterm expressed fewer negative emotions than infants born full-term. Naive judges rated infants born preterm as displaying more liking than their full-term counterparts…
Understanding developmental language disorder-The Helsinki longitudinal SLI study (HelSLI): A study protocol
2018
Background Developmental language disorder (DLD, also called specific language impairment, SLI) is a common developmental disorder comprising the largest disability group in pre-school-aged children. Approximately 7% of the population is expected to have developmental language difficulties. However, the specific etiological factors leading to DLD are not yet known and even the typical linguistic features appear to vary by language. We present here a project that investigates DLD at multiple levels of analysis and aims to make the reliable prediction and early identification of the difficulties possible. Following the multiple deficit model of developmental disorders, we investigate the DLD …
The Mediating Role of Self-Efficacy in the Relationship between Approach Motivational System and Sports Success among Elite Speed Skating Athletes an…
2022
Background: While the association between self-efficacy and sports success has been well established in previous studies, little is known regarding whether the basic approach motivation system contributes to this relationship in athletes. The study examines associations between self-reported temperamental approach disposition, self-efficacy, and predispositions to sports success in athletes. Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed between August 3 and 30 November 2020. The participants were 156 athletes, aged 16–34 years (M = 21.57, SD = 3.58, 41.67% women), in two groups: 54 elite athletes in speed skating (EASS) and 102 physical education students (PES). The online survey consisted…
Does Subjective Rating Reflect Behavioural Coding? Personality in 2 Month-Old Dog Puppies: An Open-Field Test and Adjective-Based Questionnaire
2016
A number of studies have recently investigated personality traits in non-human species, with the dog gaining popularity as a subject species for research in this area. Recent research has shown the consistency of personality traits across both context and time for adult dogs, both when using questionnaire based methods of investigation and behavioural analyses of the dogs' behaviour. However, only a few studies have assessed the correspondence between these two methods, with results varying considerably across studies. Furthermore, most studies have focused on adult dogs, despite the fact that an understanding of personality traits in young puppies may be important for research focusing on …
Compatibility of the Different Tuning Systems in an Orchestra
2009
Focusing on the daily practice of musicians, we give flexibility to the mathematical treatment of musical notes, tuning systems and the relations between them. This allows us to connect the theory and the practice of music. Using the techniques of fuzzy logic, we describe the concepts with fuzzy sets and introduce the α-compatibility as a degree of interchangeability between tuning systems. To show how our proposal works, we use a fragment of Haydn and analyze the compatibility of the notes taken from 48 recordings for the tuning systems of Pythagoras, Zarlino and Equal Temperament of 12 notes.
Are affective temperaments determinants of quality of life in euthymic patients with bipolar disorder?
2018
Background: Bipolar disorder (BD) is a disabling illness that is associated with low quality of life (QoL). This low QoL goes further than mood episodes, which suggests that stable traits, such as affective temperaments, can cause functional impairment. Objective: Our study analyses the impact of affective temperaments on the Physical Component Summary (PCS) and Mental Component Summary (MCS) of QoL in euthymic BD patients. Methods: A multicentre study was conducted in 180 euthymic BD patients and 95 healthy controls. Firstly, statistical analyses were performed to compare QoL and affective temperaments between the two groups. Secondly, Adaptive Lasso Analysis was carried out to identify th…
Tuning continua and keyboard layouts
2008
Previous work has demonstrated the existence of keyboard layouts capable of maintaining consistent fingerings across a parametrized family of tunings. This paper describes the general principles underlying layouts that are invariant in both transposition and tuning. Straightforward computational methods for determining appropriate bases for a regular temperament are given in terms of a row-reduced matrix for the temperament-mapping. A concrete description of the range over which consistent fingering can be maintained is described by the valid tuning range. Measures of the resulting keyboard layouts allow direct comparison of the ease with which various chordal and scalic patterns can be fin…
1,5-3 gadus vecu bērnu ekrānierīču lietošanas paradumu saistība ar temperamentu, uzvedības problēmām, māšu audzināšanas pieeju, māšu ekrānierīču liet…
2021
Maģistra darba mērķis bija izpētīt, kāda ir 1,5–3 gadus vecu bērnu ekrānierīču lietošanas paradumu saistība ar temperamentu, uzvedības problēmām, māšu audzināšanas pieeju, māšu ekrānierīču lietošanas paradumiem un māšu attieksmi pret bērnu ekrānierīču lietošanu. Pētījumā piedalījās 96 bērnu mātes, kurām ir bērni vecumā no 1,5 līdz 3 gadiem. Bērnu vidējais vecums ir 2,43 gadi. Lai izvērtētu bērna uzvedību pēdējo 6 mēnešu laikā, tika izmantota Bērna uzvedības novērtēšanas aptauja vecākiem (Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL/ 1 ½ - 5) paredzēta 1,5–5 g.v. bērnu aprūpētājiem, kuri bērnu var novērot mājas situācijā. Aptaujas standartizāciju veica I. Skreitule – Pikše, M. Raščevska, S. Sebre, A. Koļe…
Is Sensation Seeking Linked Only to Personality Traits? The Role of Quality of Attachment in the Development of Sensation Seeking among Italian Adole…
2015
Considering sensation seeking as a personality trait has led to the driving of a series of studies on the biological and temperamental characteristics of sensation seekers. Conversely, from a bio-psychosocial perspective, personality factors are believed to account for about half of the likelihood that an individual will engage in disadaptive and dangerous actions, whereas environmental factors, such as primary relationships, interact with the person’s biology and affect the extent to which genetic factors exert their influence. On the light of these considerations, the present study explored the unique and common contributions of temperament and quality of attachment measured from 15 years…
